That’s impressive. Have skied up at Bogong a couple of times but there are some pretty step runs off the top into Cairn Creek (I am a bit of a hack and can only do some of the gentler runs on tele gear). We came in from Long Spur on the other side and camped at Cleve Cole Hut.
Sorry to say but Cleve died on Bogong in1936!
Wally Ryder collected the skis next spring and eventually handed them to Ian.
Assume you are joining about the photo - I am 90% obscured!
Sorry what a goose I meant Mick Hull, (will edit post).
Also you said you were in the passenger seat so were obscured by Ian.
I’ve no knowledge of the circumstances , and it hasn’t made the papers / news feeds, but a man died this week after a tiger snake bite on the outskirts of Melbourne. Despite hospital treatment. Stay vigilant everyone, they’re all a bit supercharged still.
This one perhaps?
Unless he’s dead, I don’t think so.
Shouldn’t be hiking without gaiters this time of year.
Wow
What’s the weight like?
And does it pack down alright?
Bag is 1.16kg, sheet is 419g (I got synthetic because of cost mostly).
Haven’t tried compressing it yet but will get back to you, although the website says for synthetic to use a 15L compression sack.
update
Can get it in a 12L dry bag but can’t get leverage to compress it to close it properly. With a compression sack I think you could nearly halve that size.
Begun to spot some tigers on my local walking tracks.
What gaiters are everyone using?
Was looking at One Planet but not sure if I actually need to go that big/bulky.
Also, those quilts are ridiculously comfy but might be too hot in summer!
You don’t need anything expensive. Just make sure they are thick enough for some resistence.
I think mine are sea-to-summit ones from Anaconda.
I have both the knee high gaiters, and shorter ones which are about halfway between my ankle and knee.
I’m happier using the shorter ones. Just as long as my ankles are covered, it’s important.
I went canoeing along the Glenelg a few weeks ago, and nearly stood on a couple of big red-bellies, when doing some short hikes.
They are definitely out in force.
I walk every day and so far have not seen one along the trail. However, I did seen a baby snake, about 3 inches long on my back lawn.
I do most of my distance walking on the caminos in Spain where fortunately the snakes are not dangerous.
Any Hut2Hutters in here?
I’m back this year after a year off.
Absolutely hanging out to be back on the mountains!
Got sucked in* by Mont’s new Hypermid pyramid style tent. Just the single central pole + guy lines to tension everything. Will be my first non-freestanding tent so no doubt I’ll make some errors pitching it in the wrong place until I learn to be a bit more selective.
*Kind of - was looking at selling my 2P Moondance and getting a 1P anyway.
Oh mate.
That is luxurious
So quick/easy to pitch.
Lay out fly, pegs in 4 corners, pole, tension guy lines and shelter is up.
Mont make pretty good gear, although as you say that looks like a good copy of a Hyperlite.
Just bought a Mont jacket on special, my old 25+ year old OnePlanet goretex isn’t so waterproof these days.
My Mont daypack and shorts have been indestructible to date.
