Melbourne long term June averages (starting in 1908) are minimums of 6.9°C and maximums of 14.1°C.
We are currently, after two weeks, running at 10.1°C (+3.2°C) to 16.9 (+2.8°C).
With this to come in the next week:
Those 2026 averages won’t be budging much. Might even go higher.
There’s a fair way of winter to go and we will get an inevitable cold spell or two … but exceptionally mild. And other parts of the country similar.

It’s just crazy for June, and so near the solstice. The weather is traditionally coldest, for the six weeks after the solstice. We shall see…

Weird goings-on in Portland this morning which started off very foggy and now, at 11.30 am, the fog persists (albeit not quite as thick).
2.30pm update: It’s worsened and is as bad as it was early on. Visibility terrible. I have strange craving for a nice hot bowl of pea soup.

This morning I went outside about 6 am with the dogs and the temperature on my weather station showed as 2 degC. Sunrise was around 7:30 am and again outside with the dogs and temperature had dropped to -1 degC.
Does anyone have an explanation, as I thought temps go up with sun.
Probably just an inversion, cold air falls, warm air rises. Especially if you’re in a bit of a hollow.
The sun doesn’t really warm anything up for several hours this time of year.
