I thought it was a fair enough question
Facts.
I would prefer us not to be in but itâs a bit disingenuous to suggest the same impact to the community is not going to happen if footy clubs leave the space, some other business just rolls on in, itâs just PR from Tim to keep the topic in the news⌠its not change
Agreed.
Thatâs why we should never have offloaded Danny Jacobs.
The club should sell EFC branded cocaine. If we donât, somebody else will.
Besides, thereâs help available if addicts want it.
Dons fans: do you like a bump?
Great stuff by Port Melbourne in ditching their pokies despite the financial chasm between standalone VFL clubs with pokies and those without.
Apparently purchased by Moonee Valley Racing Club, who Essendon director (currently up for re-election) Kate OâSullivan is also a board member of.
Pokies in the back room away from everything else is fine.
People are adults.
Itâs when they take over a venue or get in the way of you know socialising and real entertainment.
Next thing you know these venues will ban booze.
Because you know booze causes its fair share of problems too. ![]()
We have Responsible Serving of Alcohol front and centre for all liquor licensees but are Gambling Code of Conducts enforced as strongly as the RSA? Itâs definitely harder to judge if a person is losing too much money unless all gambling is via a restricted card. The Vic Government keeps delaying stronger measures to protect people from over gambling on poker machines.
If you canât see the pokies, have enforced self exclusion.
Surely thatâs ok though.
I mean I hate em. But if you canât see them you trust people to be adults.?
Pokies are designed to trap. Iâve done work for leagues clubs in the past and the design of everything is done through studies of how to get the most out of the gamers. Itâs pretty disgusting. Having said that itâs a large source of government revenue so essentially becomes a tax on the poor to take back some of the pension and unemployment income.
If Crown can mandate that you can only play Pokies with an ID card that sets limits, why canât every Pokies venue ?
Sure I donât go near them.
Donât like them.
And would rather they werenât in places that serve alcohol.
Ie a good law would be you choose one or the other.
You canât have responsible gambling where drinking is going on.
And look if you have a big win gambling it often leads to irresponsible drinking too.
Still think if the things are in the back room out of view they arenât an issue though. And with clubs thatâs what i hate. Where itâs in your face.
I personally think we should lean into the whole pokies thing because weâre not good at anything else
Well. Obviously thatâs the end of Port Melbourne. How can a football club survive without pokies revenue? If Essendon canât do it, then who does Pt Melbourne think they are.
Obviously theyâll fold within the year, just like Nth Melbourne did when they got rid of their pokies.
Essendon: the club less competent financially than Port Melbourne and North Melbourne.
