Trade Talk 2019: who should we beat our chest like an ape about now?

Agreed. I think Port have done very well.

Burton is already a gun, mayes and Lycett aren’t exactly pelicans and They’re placed well in the draft.

Cap space can change very quickly depending on front/back end of contracts etc.

I wouldn’t rule us out of being active if we identify a gap. We could easily trade out someone like Laverde or Stewart if they are struggling for games to free up space for Martin on a long back ended deal if that’s what we were aiming for.

if they take the whole team to the RSL, do you think the younger players in the team will get pension discounts aswell? (group booking)

If we get top 4 it will help as we can pay unders to attract FA that want finals. We probably can’t fit another superstar but should be targeting some players around the 600k mark.

An outside runnner and a small forward next year would top the list off perfectly.

I don’t think Geelong should get a C+.
Two first round picks + change for Kelly is about right.
I’d be surprised if they get a similar offer next year.

Makes up a bit for last year’s debacle.

Let’s get Walters down here for a last shot at it.

Yep, Walters or Breust or similar.

Someone who is at the end of their career but still a goal kicker and who wouldn’t cost that much.

With their ins and outs Port are now even slower than they were last season.
Poor trade period for them imo.

Very surprised if we trade in anyone next year. At least not anyone of significance. It’s not something you do every year. You just can’t endlessly spend. Next year we will be drafting I would think. 2020 too.

l said the same thing about JD more than a week ago. Getting him fit again has to be our #1 priority over the preseason.

We probably don’t have sufficient currency anymore to go after a decent sized fish. I’m disappointed as I wanted Jack Martin this year at best case, but now it seems like it will be tough to get anything done next year without a 2019 1st rounder.

ANNOUNCE 2019 TRADE TARGETS

I think a large part of that depends on how we perform next year, and the structuring of existing contracts (whether Hopper, Hurley, Heppell are front or back ended). We have very little capital with draft picks, but success generates appeal and we may end up a bit like Hawthorn with ageing stars who fill a need interested in signing on for a shot at a flag. The thing we always discount (myself included) is potential for players requesting opportunity elsewhere, which may allow us to manoeuvre for other free agents.
