Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

Ok.

I wasn’t debating that though.

If their first round pick was worthless to them (which you said it was and they wouldn’t even use it), then it is also worthless to us I guess given it is tied to their finishing position.

So why did we ask for it?

We should have traded him but we didn’t because we wanted a worthless pick. Right?

More points for Bewick who could very well be top 5

Perhaps.

I’d say we would have that covered anyway though.

Doesn’t change the value of the pick. If it’s worthless, then why did Hawks keep it and why did Essendon want it?

The answer is, because it isn’t worthless.

I think they could do with a key forward and a decent midfielder or 2 but other than that they’ve got good players and an excellent coach; albeit he’s a c*nt.

The Oracle has spoken…they are now deemed worthless

Their president said they had the 10th youngest list in the AFL.

Which also translates to the 8th oldest

Their list isn’t as young as people think

Other way round. Hawks were 10th oldest list

Hawks list is unbalanced - they lack players in the 23-28 year old age bracket, a key list demographic.

This is especially true of their backline. Their forward spearhead is 33/34 and is highly unlikely to repeat his recent season-best performance.

Their “best player”, Will Day, is continuously injured. They have lost depth in the trade period (Worpel, CJ) and brought no one in.

At most, they have 2 years to win a flag with that list, else it’s back to the drawing board. Mitchell knows this; hence why he was so keen to lure Merrett over.

Breust with 300 games is gone, they had 22 players with less than 50 games experience, they are led foremost by their excellent young players. One of the contentions is that Merrett will feel himself lucky to have dodged a bullet, another that they will come crashing down to earth. Wishing these things, particularly from the perspective of a supporter of a team that has not developed its young talent or system or coaching to anything close to their excellence, is, well, Essington at its purest. Wishing a thing doesn’t change the evidence in front of your eyes.

Tassie aren’t guaranteed to even exist with an election coming up. Could go either way

My counter to that is “Fark Hawthorn”

Knew it was something like that. Point being, still in the middle and not as young as people think

I think they will be thinking that while Gunston might drop a bit, Lewis and Dear will more than cover it.

Playing Day at the end of the season was stupid

Hawthorns culture is so weak, that Kennett is calling on Weddles Grandma to save the day.

Do they need the stadium built before entering? How long will it take to build it?

Maybe I’m a pessimist, but I still reckon the AFL put that condition in because they know it won’t be built and are sick of people demanding a Tassie team. This way they can blame someone else

I’m pretty sure that’s at the root of the whole dialogue, and I support it, let’s just be real about it

Dear literally has no idea how to play other than when he is given a free run and jump at a mark. He was dropped a couple of times this last season as I recall.

Mitchell, like will Day, is talented but perennially injured.

Without doubt if Mitchell and Day could play full seasons in 2026 the Hawks would do very well.

But I consider both Day and Mitchell having injury free runs in 2026 highly unlikely.

Dear missed most of the year through injury. He has excellent hands.

Feel as though the hawks are better than any club at using what they have to their greatest advantage.

They are well coached and will thereabouts for some time I reckon. They have plenty of cash and picks to stock up as their older players drop off.

Not their best off season but they’ll still be a threat for a long time coming for mine.
