He has a great leap but little else. No idea where to stand at boundary line throw ins (saw Gunstall direct him one game), ball watches a lot and until he can jump on top of the pack.
He has some talent, no doubt, but has a few deficiencies as well. Whilst he was injured this past season, he was also dropped more than once. Perhaps came back too soon from injury the first time.
Gun players want to play there. Ask me how I know this. Losing a couple of half decent mature players isnât going to hurt them in their window which could be quite large, and they;d be looking at the Geelongs and Brisbanes for how to best ensure that now that they have a highly competitive base. Gunston looks likely to go on for another 2 at least but theyâd have plans for when he goes. Theyâll probably target Caddy.
I hope more than anything that Hawthorn has amediocrity next year, and all arrogant, closet supporters return to their privelliged caves. Fark em, âŚ. Oh, and fark Carlton
Mitchell himself expressed concerns about the big task ahead, Hawks need to find improvement just to maintain their position.
They canât rely on improvement from the âperennially injured". Day may not even play.
They wontâ get improvement from their main goal kickers in Gunners and Marbs and itâs only reasonable to expect their 20 goals will dwindle to well under 80 goals. They wonât get any more out of Fizz especially now that Mitch is running him through the middle for a spark. Bambi is struggling to instinctively get to all the the right places. Scoring power is a huge concern.
Itâs an ageing backline with Sis, Amon, Impey, and Barass - no improvement found there. Battle is what he is - serviceable
They saw a huge hole in the midfield and chased improvement trying to poach Zac, and failed.
Overall, there is a significant drop off on the horizon for Mitch.
I think you have Dear wrong. He is younger than Caddy (few months only), has great hands and is looking for consistency and fitness, which he has plenty of time to find. He has enormous upside for a 20 yr old kid.
Thereâs a fair bit of âchampion players beat a champion teamâ vibe here. They probably wonât contest a GF next year either but theyâre in the game in a big way. Other top teams lose players too but not their system or their ability to find ways to win. Itâs okay to be envious of Hawks fans, theyâve had it so much better than us since the 80âs itâs extremely not funny.
Pick trading is now off the table until first night of the draft. Then itâs open slather for 2 nights! Also clubs limited to taking the draft picks they have for open list spots; again once the draft starts they can start accumulating as many picks as they want.
