Easy. Most players mentioned a being bagged by individuals for a variety of reasons and I get that and itās fair enough.
Unfortunately, we need to take risks and look for small improvements in most areas. Merrett has been our best on field leader, supported by Durham and then Caldwell. McGrath, Roberts & Clarke are left to carry the flag when our players go down.
We need to recruit some senior players that will lead, teach, educate & mentor our kids. Look at what a washed up Hodge did for Brisbane, or a casted off Lewis at Melbourne.
Steele is not them, but, he is better than what we have.

Essendon currently has 3 18 year olds on the list.
Going to be a wild ride over the next few weeks to get at least another 20 to field a team.
Technically they all turn 19 before the start of the year though, so might need a few extras

Judging by how our 18/19/20 year olds play, weād be much better off just having more of them.

Tell us again how many games we won with the pups when all our mature aged players when down way before mid year.
Itās going to be a slow build team. I know Fagan made his first GF in his 7th year but they also recruited and drafted exceptionally well. Weāve got holes everywhere but we have to keep plugging those holes over the next few years. No way around it. Iād be more focused on development + cultureā¦we certainly canāt afford to draft well but then lose players to teams contending

The wrong players went down.
Iām specifically talking about replacing our mediocre bunch
Hobbs/Gresham/Tsatas/Guelfi etc.
No one is winning under those circumstances.

Our coaches regard Jones as a wingman and the administrators gave him an unwarranted 2 year contract extension this year.

He also comes from a good family, grew up in a leafy suburb and went to a good school where he was school captain.
Steele three years ago, maybe, but no matter how good a bloke he is, heās cooked.
And people seem to forget that list spots are limited. Trade him in, and thereās one less player we draft when now is the time to load up on young talent.

Him or lual.at least with Jones we have a chance of taking a mark here and there especially after we have a kick in from defence
