Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 8)

That’s why the club can’t do anything until the Merrett situation is done and dusted

Sorry, but neither.

Does he have aspirations of being a property developer also?

We have been trying to get a bloke to play wing ever since. Humphrey cam 4th in GC club champion award. Also awarded best emerging player. He isn’t going anywhere.

We finally got a pair of wings, Duursma and Martin.

Martin sadly out for large chunk of the year. Reckon Clarke can be a solid winger.

Not sold on SEH at all there.

Roberts also absolutely can do it.

And Merrett.

they did it last year for pick 25 wasnt it

Merrett will be gone.

27 in the end (but also got what is currently 24 this year).

For pick 3…

Absolute nightmare.

We could potentially trade down to pick up both Carltons compensation picks. Maybe ask for a 3rd rounder too.

It would allow them to get ahead of a Dean bid which would be very appealing to them.

gives us picks 21,22,27,30 to play with.

Maybe we can give up 22,30 for GCs 14.

Get pick 8 for Merrett

Go in with 5,8,9,14,21,27 with some 3rd rounders to pay for Sweid.

what exactly is your definition of a jobber, whatever that is ?

because for argument sake, if steele was to join us, he’d be the only the second player on the current list to be a dual all australian. If you consider that a jobber, how ■■■■■■■ low do you think of the rest of the list ?

because on resume if he walked into the club, he’s our second best player and that’s only if merrett stays.

now one can argue if he’s on the decline, or maybe this was just a down year for a multitude of reasons (like our club using injuries to justify the decline this year).

one thing to argue on that front, another thing to diminish his achievements throughout his career so far, again all of which surpass all but one player currently on our list who ironically wants out.

Hmm - so the afl gift WC a pick that they can send back to the lions for Starcevich which means the lions will have enough points to get their academy players.

all a coincidence.

This sort of ■■■■ is what will kill my love of the game. influencing things for commercial reasons. COLA and northern academies. Enough to make you vomit.

granted again without context stats can be deceiving, but if steele is “cooked” averaging 20 disposals a game and almost 9 tackles, how badly do you rate the rest of our list ?

cos there ain’t that many producing those numbers, esp tackling.

Leaves Carlton with a couple of picks in the 40s.
Nowhere near enough to actually match the bid (and I don’t think bringing a future 2nd forward would cut it for them either).

Don’t see it happening (unless something happens with Curnow)

Jobber being a general term to describe players like Steele, Simpkin, Fiorini etc.

Steele was good, he isn’t much chop anymore. Which is why the Saints are moving him on.

Wasn’t a jobber before, he is now.

But there is no point debating this with you because you’re so rarely wrong so I will just accept whatever you say as fact.

Slow inside mids are a dying breed in the game now.

Game demands players able to transition up and back with speed.

May be able to get away with one of these types per team now.

nah like i said, if you think he’s a jobber, i’d actually hate to think how little you think of our actual list, considering they barely match his stats, in most cases, cos if he’s a jobber, 3 and 3/4’s of our list are also that, or worse if there’s such a thing.

Yup, you’re right as usual (I can’t believe I for one moment thought otherwise)

All I can really do is apologise. Sorry.

Frankly I cant believe you’re even trying to have an opinion.

Just wait for him to tell you how you feel instead. Save time.
