People really get their knickers in a twist over that term. âFirst rounder!â - yeah, it could end up starting at 18 and drift all the way to the late 20s. Even the mid 30âs if weâre talking a 2027 top four teamâs first rounder, when accounting for the Tassie concessions.
Then thereâs the lost time of development to consider if itâs a future first.

I donât think the former will happen, but the latter is possible.
We just might need to tack on a pick with Merrett (a future third or something).
That pick will come in to the 70s and perhaps even earlier after all academy bids are done. Not exactly a game-changer, but it gets Port the player they wanted and fast.

We need to be realistic. We are not an attractive place for players to come to right now. Even if Hawks were willing to offer them up, they wonât agree to come to us.

And Curnow is a much more valuable asset than Zach Merrett.
Heâs a star power forward. They are worth a stack more than elite mids.
Florent isnât worth much more than Husthwaite.
Swans also want pick 22 back which cancels out Hayward.
In reality Swans offer is pick 11 and a future first, which is worse than Hawks offer.
Surely itâs this yearâs 3rd we throw in rather than next yearâs? If we needed to give anything. Which I donât think we necessarily do.
