Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 9)

Yep I think this will be a live option for sure and something we can do on draft night based on where players all falling

I love the smell of Essington in the morning.

Of course in that scenario it’d depend on the AFLs magic compensation formula, which I think nominally takes age into account. Even though I expect Merrett to be one of those players who keeps going at a high level well into his mid 30s, it’ll count against us in compensation. Not that the AFL ever need an excuse to screw us over on that stuff. I’m still ■■■■■■ about only getting 20 for Draper. FFS.

had already accepted that we’re going to be ass in 2026. now it’ll be 2027 as well at least, and probably 2028 as well.

no edge will be left untinkered though, which is good to know

You likely need to list your top 15 players outside of academy /father son

1 Duursma - Eagles
2 CDT - Eagles
3 Robey - Tigers
4 Talor - Tigers
5 Sharp - efc
6 Cumming - efc
7 Schubert - Melbourne
8 Lindsay - Melbourne
9 Farrow - Carlton
10 Grilj - Hawthorn
11 Marsh - Carlton
12 Greeves - Giants
13 Phillipou - Eagles
14 Dovaston - Dogs
15 Hibbons Hargreaves - Suns - traded out to highest bidder

so say Sharp, Cumming, Hibbons-Hargreaves

vs
Sharp, Farrow, Marsh

Wright’s first year at the club.

Not saying he’ll save them, but he knows how to operate

PS: Fark Carlton

but this is a weak draft tho

we should just pass on all of our picks

Why wouldn’t you approach Carlton with
21, 30 and a future second for 9?
Try and hit the draft with 5, 6 and 9

Ideally you want 5,9,11,15 - so 4 of them.

I think the top 15 is where its at.

Their strategy of pinching the best talent, instead of developing their own, will now bite them hard.

Clubs are onto their tactics as are player managers and after yesterday, it will be hard to get top end talent.

The cliff will come quickly, they barely scraped into the 8 this year.

If Gunston , Chol , Barass drop their output they are stuffed.

Add to that, the new ruck rules completely hurt the way Meek plays

Blues then lose pick 11 with the bid. No value to them

I’d personally take option one but I’m not at all well informed on the draftees this year.

Next player they try poach it will cost them a kings ransom.

Oppo clubs will know they are fragile and can’t let another slip.

Yeh fair. Its really what do they see as available at 6. May even pull trigger on draft night.

I still think there is a chance CDT falls to us and then clubs will also be on the phone to package deals for us to consider to try and get him

Its pretty similar, your probably right option 1, looks a little better.

or keep 5,6 trade up for 9 with a future second and 21 + 27 as said above.

likely needs blues to trade out 11 for future picks or trade back to clubs looking at moving up.

They’ll also try and trade that for seconds this year and next.
Once they use what’s required for Dean they’ll still be in this draft.
Points for next year might be more important for Walker.

honestly i would open up a pick swap thread and close the trade thread. its a little bit tense in here

It doesn’t make any sense for them. They want another first in addition to Dean this year. They traded 22 to move up a spot so I don’t see why they would trade back down

We give him time to realise what has taken place over the last couple of days, and how highly the hawks actually rated him, not very from the 3 offers that they tabled.

He then goes away and puts his big boy pants on, puts his best foot forward and has a decent season. Or he wallows in self pity in the reserves for the next 2 years loosing match payments.

At the end of next season if he still wants out, he and the hawks will know where we stand, and other clubs will more than likely be involved this time round. Making sure we get a fair deal.
