Looks like he has turned a full baseball cap into a visor simply by chopping the top off it and then put strapping tape around the cut edges so it doesn’t dig into his head. Possibly to allow him to cool off more efficiently but still allowing him to keep the sun out of his eyes.

My input to add - hope the OP doesn’t mind.

Lovely sunny day with a medium breeze. Willy Wagtails all over the place… keeping those pesky arachnids away from the oval railings.

Training began today at approximately 1000, with an all-in huddle/meeting. Then commenced warm-up and stretches, followed by time-trials.

Joey, Gleeks not running. Begs, Hooksey, McNiece, Laverde (later), Stewart went to Oval#2 and did straight, 100m runs instead. Then Begs & McNeice ran a few laps and joined in for a bit of light kick-to-kick.

Trails were split in groups – a bunch of 10 players including Fanta, Clarke, Mutch, Hartley & Sheil ran around the ‘tan’ – the gravel; walking strip encompassing the two ovals and training areas. The order of finish was as just listed, with Fanta doing a PB.

Smaller squad ran laps around Oval#1 – Langers, Redman, Houlahan & Zaka finished in that order, with Lavender and then Draper very far behind.

Stringer did multi-laps with Kelly – who is like a machine and didn’t stop talking while running.

After a 15m break, players changed into footy boots. A number of drills ensued – a kicking drill in groups of 5. Longy showed some very slick foot skills – nothing spectacular, but he is a very nice field kick – as is Ridley.

Jamar had the talls in a drill with Belly, Drapes and Lavendar, marking/spoiling inside defensive square – with Harvs watching intently and inserting instructions.

A midfield group drill included Jok rucking and acting almost like a 2nd possession mid – Grundy-like. Jok continued doing mid work throughout the training session. Jok is going to be a surprise next year. He excelled at every drill and won almost all 1-on-1’s I saw.

Guelfi’s hair has grown, and doesn’t suit him. As far as anything ‘doesn’t suit’ Guelfi. He joined Sheil on Oval#2 to do further light work.

A nice little fwd/def drill based on momentum and weight-shifting, the point being to mark an incoming pass by using the opponent’s weight against them – Akido-styley. At one point, Stringer screamed out in frustration as Myers continued to consistently beat him at the game. Other match-ups were Langers/Dea, Mutch/Mynott, Saad/Merret, Hepp/Redman, Ambo/BZerk and Walla/Bags.

And that’s were the aforementioned bad news comes in. Redman on Hepp in this drill. Redman landed awkwardly, twisting his right ankle. He fell to the ground in intense pain – crying, in fact. I heard him say ‘something’s broken’. He may have also strained his knee. Hepp, interestingly, said “keep it down, mate!”.

An exciting simulation/drill commenced with majority mids. Two teams, one taking the ball out from D50 kick-out to goal. On each team a blue-vested player was the link-up who’s role it was to run hard from D50 to O50. Receiving and delivering the ball appropriately and as need be. Players to wear the blue were – Langers/Stringer, Jok/Lavender, Merret, Myers, Guelfi & Harts. Jok once again excelled, and for whatever reason, he and Walla tended to find each other a lot during play. The actual ‘goal posts’ for this drill were spaced 2m apart.

I’m not certain I understood the finer points of this simulation – particularly since there was also one player in a white vest – I couldn’t determine his purpose.

Meanwhile, Sheil was still doing light laps. Laverde & Gleeks went off to swim laps.
Clarke overheard saying “I better not do any 40m kicks”

Next main drill was 3v3 at goal. Incoming high ball, 1 designated ‘marker’, the other 3/2 helping to defend/attack. Hurls was outstanding in this and was never beaten – he was on Stewart.

While this was going on, the core midfield group were doing clearance work – Sheil, Jok & Stringer included.

Long break at 1200.

A few forwards took shots at goals from various angles. Jeeze Walla is a nice kick for goal. He holds the ball at a slight angle – almost torp-like, but hits it so cleanly.

After the break, there was a major drill with most players. The goal here was to transition the ball from kick-out to outside D50 and into an attacking position using handballs but not more than 1 other kick. Whoosha insisting on direct play. This pattern mostly went left or right – kick/HB/Hb/Hb/centering kick to attack. Guelfi/Pidge/Sheil & Merret made a formidable team.

Hurls and Hepp moved to Oval#2 and ran 100m runs. Players then rotated between small-group drills and the bikes and/or grinders. At 1220, Stringer, Walla, Bags Merret and a couple of others ran 150m ‘arcs’.

Langers & Dea then did a contested marking drill, as did a few others.

Pidge and Sheil worked at an interesting drill with a trainer. It consisted of running at and scooping up a moving ball, spinning around and snapping for goal. They both excelled at this and scored 24/30 tries each.

Training ended at approximately 1230.

Club site says

“He has since undergone scans and while his previous syndesmosis injury appears unaffected, he has an undisplaced fracture in his right ankle.”

Any care to translate that to English? Doesn’t sound good?

He didn’t move here yesterday. He’s been living here and following football for years. He has as much football “in his DNA” as the average Skippy McWhitefella

CDS Maybe you are right, maybe its just because these guys are big blokes that it takes a little longer. That is the established wisdom that sounds like a stuck record.
