I never stated that they should stop altogether. I was trying to get across that they should be entitled to slow down while they are on sanctioned leave. I just don’t agree with, what I read as, criticism of the players for not maintaining peak levels of fitness 24/7/365.

Apparently I didn’t do a very good job of expressing my opinion. Fine, I can wear that.

Yes, it is part of their responsibilities to maintain a suitable level of fitness during a break. It is certainly in their best interests to do so and I would imagine the club would place expectations on the players to meet for when they return.

Yes, they should be able to wind down because 52 weeks of trying to maintain that high level will lead to physical and mental fatigue and injury - most likely.

Either way, randoms (including myself) on an internet forum are not going to change club or player practices.

I’m four rounds into cricket season and already carrying three injuries plus exhaustion plus several regrettable alcohol-related incidents. Six months off is not enough.

He is actually officially delisted at the moment, albeit with a promise to be redrafted. (It is ironic that he was delisted after one year though, given he left because he wanted two years from us). Anyway, I like him, so good luck to him.

Skinfold calipers are a no no, DXA scans are frowned upon, and no S and C staff are allowed to use the F word. The AFL is a bastion of PC concepts. Right? Its a wonder any club is allowed to have both set of scales and measuring tape in the gym.

All that PC stuff only started when they set up the women’s league.

And the game hasn’t been affected one iota, so why would any fan care?
