Training report - Thursday 28 January 2021

Can you do the highlight test one as well, as that might make it easier if people want to reply to nackers, and will avoid the massive posts…

There should be a Doe’s Blitz Users Masterclass thread

Yeah we can beat Adelaide, it’s in Melbourne. I reckon we will get 5-8 wins, always some surprises in store. Excited by the prospect of some actual home games and hopefully some promising young talent.

In 1992 we won 12 games, I think somewhere around 6-12 wins is realistic. we need to start well though and bank some wins early,

Super draft 2021. Less wins the better!

Well this thread turned into the lid off thread quickly

After ~ 9 rounds we went fully youth and won 9 of our last 13 games.

The 4 games we lost were all to the eventual Top 4. That includes the last game of the year against Geelong at Waverley (if I recall correctly) where Sheedy gave Madden, Daniher (& perhaps one other) farewell games when they were both well and truly shot and unfit.

@Bomb_Doe Can you show me how to post an internet article or something? I’ve never done it before!

Moment of honesty. I am legit concerned on our slow ball movement so far this pre-season. Not quite sure what their overall plan is with this obsessive short kicking. Cant help
feel defense teams are going to love this. Maybe there is some bigger plan/picture i am not picking up on but the short kicking has been so consistent in drills since December. It requires a lot of precision and i just don’t see our midfield skilful enough currently. I thought it might be more a defensive drill at first but its every session so it has to be offensive ball movement too to some degree.

Didn’t Sheedy use a similar style in, and I’m guessing here, 2004 or so. I recall a time where we were all about maintaining possession and chipping it around. Without much success

Every team does this. Retain footy to get it up the field to then attack

Will be times you can get an intercept/turnover and attack quicker on counter however.

I’ve got to admit that does change my view on our likely wins a bit. Take those 6 games + 1 vs. Adelaide, and I can definitely see us winning 4-5 of them. So pinch one or two others here or there, and we are up to 6.

God the uneven draw is a farce.

The bulldogs do it and they carve their way through our zone with ease

and skill

The slow ball movement had a number of players displeased last year. As I keep saying, if Rutten Is unable to get the players to believe in his style, we are doomed.

Lucky we’ve got such skilled users by foot in our midfield to carry out a high possession based game :grimacing:

Short kick from defence to mids then overlap with handball back to Ridley or Francis and long kick over the zone to leading Jones.
or to Shiel/Caldwell/McGrath who run forward 10-20m then kick to Jones.
