How did you post that while simultaneously working on your monster report??
Jake’s grandfather lives a few doors up from me . Apparently club is taking a cautious approach. Has tightness in his hamstrings. Make of that what you will could be a ruse from the old boy
Oh good! I was worried we didn’t have enough defenders!
Not the best athlete but very good kick and good footy smarts from half back
Not sure if genuine or sarcasm but we are actually lacking medium to small defenders (as well as small forwards) at the moment.
“Carrying the ball” and “not the best athlete” are an unusual combination.
Yeah a 3.17 sec 20m sprint time is very slow, especially for someone of his size.
Sounds like a neat kick - which we do need - but I dunno how he’ll go keeping up the small forwards he’ll be up against at the top level.
I liked Smith off half back, we got Hind back, Heppell is moving back there and Mason Redman fits the medium defender role. If Charlie Byrne was zippy like a Hind - I’d see it making more sense.
I guess 5 medium/small defenders is a decent amount adding Byrne to the list, however.
In the final draft guide (draft central) he was recorded with a 3.03 sec 20m sprint time
You didn’t watch David Calthorpe?
Yeah I’m personally not convinced about Devon Smith as a member of the back 6/7. To me we need him playing to his strengths and kicking goals as is his natural instincts. I’d like him in a fwd/mid role with more time spent fwd.
It sounds like Heppell could rotate through there but I’m not sure he’s going to be great at actually defending a forward with any real pace or nous. He’s more comfortable in the peel off and mark kind of role. Besides, I still think with his lack of pace he can best benefit this side by putting his head in the trough and winning the inside ball and dishing it off to our more outside inclined mids.
It’s why with Saad and McKenna going the Hind recruitment made sense. Whether he’s ultimately up to the grade as a reliable, long term player capable of running both ways remains to be seen of course but the recruitment made sense as it is a gaping hole on the list.
Let’s hope Redman’s real level is more the 2019 Redman than the 2020 one.
I think another player of Byrne’s profile would be a good acquisition. Although those sprint times I just read aren’t all that encouraging
Not saying him specifically, just a small-med defender would be good for one of our vacant list spots.
James Hird wasn’t the best athlete but rarely caught with the ball.
Club is clearly prioritizing disposal efficiency as part of their recruitment strategy. The club is finally on the right track.
Can we stand on the boundary yet or are we still treated as diseased normals?
I guess between Baker, Waterman and Byrne, we’re getting the best of those three playing in that spot - but if you’re right, might need two of the three.
Wait, is that facing in or out?
