Training Wednesday 12/2/14

Fantastic training reports. Thanks to all. I am most interested to see how these drill impact the game plan on Monday.

Fantastic training reports. Thanks to all. I am most interested to see how these drill impact the game plan on Monday.

I just hope the players don‘t stop after a set play to hear the coaches explain how they went.

The boys started early , and I was a bit late. Result; I missed most of the full ground match drills. But a couple of others were there, so expect some info.
What followed were small group drills. Some did stoppages. Some focused on kicking to the advantageous side of one-on-one contests. These then morphed into a structured, extended goal kicking session. Players were rotated through stations at various angles, taking multiple set shots, and two stations on the flanks required goal kicking on the run. It all then wound up with long range torpedoes , which seemed optional.
A few quick thoughts;
I suspect the two "squads" - vests and jumpers- have been kept pretty constant through preseason. The two sides I saw on Monday seemed to be replicated fairly closely today.
I expect Zach to play senior footy early. Has a good low centre of gravity and "sniffs" out the ground ball well. Compact, efficient and as mentioned a lot uses the footy well with minimal time.
Aylett is a good size. Drilled some nice goals in the running task.
Colyer, bags and Dell all kicked some impressive torps from a long way out.
Chappy seems very popular.
Edwards seems to have a good understanding of body positioning.
The goal kicking focus was the longest I have seen since sheeds was coach.
Hepp looked far more sprightly than on Monday.
Not sure I wil bother with pics, certainly didn't take the quantity I did on Monday.
A relaxed but specifically targeted session from the half I saw.

Needs more Kav!

Thanks Jackie.

Anyone know if anything is up with Myers?

He was a bit "Backy"

That means he was there and taking marks behind his back

Worried about Dempsey.

Worried about Dempsey.

Yep. So vital to us and having such an interrupted preseason not ideal.
That said we have other who can step into that HBF role on the smaller players now if he doesn't come up for round 1 match fitness wise.

Can't add I lot to Sal & JM other than to observe from player on-field comments at stoppages that they better be good at numbers in remembering the alternate plays. No doubt this is a headache for most Clubs as the required football strategy IQs take off into the stratosphere!

Now for some pics.....

"i think this one went through the big sticks......that's what I'm gonna be paid for!"

Baguley's balance and poise when kicking seems to have improved to another level over this pre-season.

"Oh no, I can't bare to look! Did you hit the target Stants?"

Mr Smooth back to his normal self after a week of soreness.

Reckon Hurls looked way more comfortable in the defensive group than anywhere else before, despite the awful hair. Great positioning in the drills too.

Liked the Goddard vocals from the sidelines, getting involved without getting involved physically.

Window is open, lid off.

Figuring out the forward stoppage plays and no, Goddard hasn't shrunk into the body of a small forward!

Jobe slips through the stoppage net and drills another major.

Not this time Browney! Gadget's got you covered.

.....don't feel bad, Gadget's got everyone covered. Having an A+ pre-season. How long can this man go?

Bags is one sexy mother farker!

There's definitely a new hairstyle trend descending on the HPC. Did someone say it will help strengthen your wrists??

Now this is just getting silly. Two ponytails in the one photo! Next they'll want to run in the Melbourne Cup!!

Now watch me Frase! I've got at least a centimetre off the ground to get this tap away.

"They can take my leaders group membership away but no-one's gonna get any of my bandages!"

Hurley, fix you hair

Now this might be really funny if they'd tell me the joke!

Hooker, beefed up and ready to rumble.

Chappy keeping a close eye on the quality of young Zac's disposal.

"It makes me thirsty, just watching you Frase."

Had a look this morning as well.

Jackie pretty much summed it up well. Skills were pretty good from what I saw.

In regards to the rehab group on the other oval, Dempsey didn't seem to be doing a great deal. A little bit of light running and kick to kick drills. Dalgleish and Hams didn't look too far off either. Didn't notice Myers or Pears at all.

Goddard looks pretty much right to go. He was sprinting laps at one stage. He then went and helped Joe and Ashby with goal kicking. They would have had about 25-30 shots at goal each. Joe was kicking at about 50% accuracy while I can only recall Ashby missing one shot at goal. It looked like Goddard was trying to help Joe with his kicking action rather than concentrating on the accuracy though.

Other things of note:- During the match simulation Fletcher was playing on Ambrose and coaching him at the same time. Telling him where to run, constantly talking to him, etc which was good to see. He looks like a bit of a Crameri clone to me.

Hardingham was doing a lot of goal kicking practice which leads me to believe he may take the Crameri role? This may have been mentioned earlier but I haven't read too many reports this pre-season.

Odds on Zach playing more games than Jackson this year?

It's the Waugh brothers all over again.

All we need is the Heppell Brothers and we will be set!

Not an uncontested possession in sight.

........and again!!

.....all arms, but where's the ball?

"Now Stants, is this how I pin the baby to change the nappy?"

Had a look this morning as well.

Fleeeeetch! Star!

These training reports whet the appetite.

Let’s hope the other crap subsides and we can get stuck into the footy big time.

The Phantom reminding Stants how Sheedy wants him to play!

"Well if Stants won't listen, I'll just have to make sure Browney follows instructions!"

Buddha's still on target.

Ariel gives the dummy the run-around and shoots accurately.

Bad's is looking so good I just had to upload another one. :)

Sounds like the players have been given the license to load up from outside 50, if there are 36 players inside out forward 50 arc.
