Training Wednesday 28/5/14

If the club was up to the level of these reports

Did Melksham train fully?

Thanks Jackie
Any sign of Dell and Stein ? Maybe an upgrade..

Both trained well.  I've run the Steinberg argument I would upgrade him but many disagree with this view.

Great work Jackie.

Flashback … The come-from-behind win against Richmond at Windy Hill in about 1977/1978. We’re a goal down when the bullet pass comes in from the wing and thumps Jack Mihocek on his barrel chest at half forward. Jack pumps the air with his fist as he marks then goes back and calmly slots it through.

Flashback to last year, when we had one of our most convincing games for the entire season. We controlled the game and imposed our will on the Tiges, who had no idea how to combat our game plan. Do it again Saturday, Bombres, #whateverittacos.

Cheers for the report!

Anything further on Hib?

What’s the go with hibberd? Will he play?

Thanks a lot JM.
On the leading to the pocket thing, I had the feeling that that was part of the game plan last year. Collingwood won a flag with that as their main option for attacking, and I felt we were trying to emulate that.
Kick it to a leading forward in the pocket. If the forward doesn't mark the defender doesn't clear, but rather the ball goes out of bounds and we get to set up a stoppage, and a forward zone. This keeps the ball locked in our forward line for long periods and stops opposition rebounding quickly / scoring quickly on turnovers.
Interesting that we seem to have gone away from this, especially given the immaturity of Daniher's body which makes it difficult for him to control where the ball ends in a contest if it's not kicked to his advantage.

perhaps its a risk reward decision making thing? Similar to taking safe backwards options instead of taking tge game on through the middle. I know what you mean with taking the ball iut and setting up a forward press but maybe the drill was about forwards getting dangerous and honouring that more. Collingwood did create contests in the forward pockets and we did it well last year but collingwood also knew when to hit cloke in a one on one or on the lead anf maybr we don't.

Great work Jackie.

My first ever game. 'Twas 1978, rose like a Phoenix in the last term & smashed em. My life changed forever.

Cheers for the report!

No information - I think he was doing weights but I'm not sure.

We'll have to wait until tonight.

Thanks again. love it.

Ideally yes - winning the ball in the centre and going straight for goal or moving it from backline to forward line.  Add to this leads at 45 degrees and some running and handball and you've got it.

Good to see the goals have been placed in the correct position because watching the past few weeks I thought they must be training with the goals on the wings.

We'll be in the box seat once the AFL bring in the 2nd centre ruck circle. Ahead of the curve thinking, I like it.
