“Get up early” he said, “to beat the heat”. “Walk up to the Karon Viewpoint lookout” he said.
It’ll be fine.
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Sweating in parts I didn’t know I had!
So worth it though!..
Glad I didn’t bring the Baakkeerrrr family. The whingeing would’ve been next level…
Why bother with Chang or Singha when you can kick back with one of these babies?
This stuff is tricky (and pricey) to get in Aus. Not the lager - the dark lager, which is the business. I’ve not had one since I was in Laos 10 years ago. Tastes as good as I remember. Much thanks to the little Minimart around the corner from the hotel (which I’ve now cleared out…)
Love phuket and thailand in general. If you are still there a littlw locla place called ‘duck spicey’ is very good. Not do far from you on the west coast
We did actually just drive straight past Duck Spicy. Alas, we’re in a transfer for a day tour so didn’t stop.
Think I’ve spoiled Thai food in Aus for myself. So many amazing eateries. If you avoid the poxy tourist ones, and find a backstreet one run by the crankiest old woman/bloke possible, you’ll find gold.
Food highlight for me… a Pad Thai from a vendor at a small market for locals. Delicious, spicy and all for the princely sum of 50 baht (about AUD 2.50).
Just looking for thoughts and advice- we’re currently heading for Darwin and then looking at coming back down the centre to Uluṟu, Olgas & Kings Canyon. Any thoughts on safety concerns and also best parks to stay at - we both have motor homes.
Thanks
Assuming Kakadu is on the cards? Can you camp off grid? If so, it opens up Ubirr and Gunlom. If not, then Yellow Waters is your only place from memory.
Further south, you have Edith Falls, Katherine Gorge, Mataranka.
Daly Waters pub is very popular with the grey nomads, Tennant Creek is a shithole, Devils Marbles looks great sunrise or sunset, not much else to report
Not sure about camping there, but it’s one of the best short hikes you can do in central Australia.
If you’ve ever seen Priscilla, you will know what I mean. Well worth it
All packed for my trip to the UK. Fly off tomorrow night. Going over to play some cricket, so obviously taking equipment with me, but the airline I’m travelling with have set a strict 25kg limit across 2 bags and it will be around $130 per extra kilo if I exceed the limit. Somehow I’ve managed to scrape in at around a kilo under, but I’ve had to essentially take the bare bones both cricket equipment wise and clothes/luggage. My normal cricket bag weighs in at 20kg fully packed but I’ve got that down to just under 10 by leaving a lot of additional gear behind, and around 14kg of normal luggage. Taking next to no toiletries with me so will have to buy toothpaste, shaving cream and all that guff when I land in London. First time overseas since 2009.
