Travel Thread (Part 1)

The Mercedes Museum is pretty stunning.

This has never stopped me visiting Saudi Arabia many times but they will be dropping the alcohol ban from next year with some caveats that it is only on beer, wine and cider (spirits will still be illegal) and only sold in around 600 outlets which are mainly luxury hotels and high tourism areas. Will still be illegal to consume alcohol in public elsewhere and on the home.
They are having a massive tourism push so thankfully I’ve seen most of the country already

Just finished 25 days travelling in the UK and Ireland. A couple of observations:

  1. Young British women appear to generally be gormless slappers - woof
  2. There cannot be many south asians still on the sub-continent!!!

Times must have changed. My first trip to the Old Dart in 1971 where those lovely English lasses welcomed us young and innocent Aussies into their arms, were not gormless slappers in any sense.

Though could be the type of ladies that are attracted to you.

They still have over a billion in reserve.

I think if you’re a young Aussie boy looking to cash in on your Australian charm.

Head to North America and don’t be shy.

Nearly two billion!

That’s a brilliant itinerary mate, you’re going to love it. I’ve pretty much done all of what you’re looking at doing.

Personally I’d just spend the 2 nights in Colombo and add a night in Kandy. Kandy has a good vibe and it’s hard to explain but it much more of a cultural place. Buddha tooth temple and cultural performances, water fall/day hikes out of town etc.

Galle is well worth it and the beach town near by Unawatuna is a great little chill spot for beach time.

I mostly stayed at family guest houses along the way and found it an awesome experience eating with locals and getting great info on where to go and what to do.

Still planning on a trip to the USA in October but have said that if the government issues a travel warning, we’d cancel.

Given the current events in the USA, and the lack of government advice regarding it, I’m thinking Australia won’t issue travel warnings regardless??

The Australian Government never issues warnings for Western/First World Countries…only the other pesky countries.

Case in point…no warning for travel to America after 9/11

One year later and the Bali bombings…travel warnings issued.

I wouldn’t go.

One of my best mates has lived in the US for the last 20 years…they both have Green Cards/permanent residency.

He’s just been back in Oz and we caught up for a yarn.

Both him and his wife brought old phones with them that have virtually nothing on them. They are genuinely concerned about their “welcome” when they get back to America.

We leave in 10 days time and get to the US at the end of the month. As yet I haven’t had to change anything but will definitely be seeing what plays out and will make adjustments as need be

Yeh can’t upset our ‘close allies’. A full blown civil war might cause DFAT to consider upping to Level 2 (Exercise a high degree of caution) but they would talk themselves out of it. FWIW I wouldn’t go unless I absolutely had to. YMMV.

  1. You will probably be fine
  2. You should be spending your hard-earned in a country that is not run by — and for —fascist grifters

Why not try Canada? They need some support after what 47 is doing to them.

Why would they?

They have protests in one part of a very large country. Smart traveller:

Honestly, it’s just an annual tradition I have with my family.

Head over to Halloween Horror Nights and do the theme parks. We have tickets for the new theme park they’re opening over their ‘Epic Universe’.

We’ve done tours around Europe etc but at this point, if it gets too dodgy over there, I’d probably cancel and do some renovations around the house here.

Will you be going to the east or east coast?

Keen to hear how you go there. Hopefully all without an issue!

Fly into Washington and have a few days there before flying to Caribbean for cricket.
Back to to the NE to visit friends in Connecticut for a few days and then over to Seattle for an Alaskan cruise on the Queen Elizabeth.
After the cruise we fly to Salt Lake City then pick up a rental car and driving to Monument Valley, Phoenix, Vegas, LA and finish in San Francisco. All up including the cruise we have 32 days in the US

Has anyone in BB land, either used or know about Memphis Tours? Specifically for the standard itinerary tour of Egypt.
Also is Dubai worth a 3 or 4 night stop-over rather than 1 night?
