Miss the opening by about a week unfortunately. Will have to go back next year for a look

Just got Q Rewards booking to Colombo rerouted as SIN-CMB leg cancelled. Now flying MEL-CMB direct with Sri Lankan which has its own risks …

The end of Jetstar Asia has been coming for a while. Profit margin isn’t great and the aircraft can be better utilised back at Jetstar on profitable Australian and NZ routes

I got a message last night that our Jetstar flight to Thailand in October had been cancelled and we would get a refund. I thought no Jetstar flights would be flying to Asia but later on found out it was only Jetstar Asia. Anyway in a mad panic yesterday I started looking for new flights. I ended up booking a flight with Singapore Airlines that was only $50 more than our flight with Jetstar. Once I pay for food and drinks on Jetstar the Singapore flight will end up cheaper. Well after I payed for my new flight hit the link on the Jetstar email to get my refund. The link didn’t work. Tried live chat which wouldn’t work. I then saw a message on the app that I could go onto my fight and cancel through the app. Tried that and it said my flight was not eligible for a refund :person_gesturing_ok:. I then get an email 12 hours after I was told my Jetstar flight was cancelled that they have actually moved us to a new flight via Brisbane. I was now thinking I have just payed for new flights and now Jetstar don’t want to give me a refund. I was really stressed so tried calling Jetstar and took me 4 times to get through. It was an hour and 45 minutes wait I was told but after 1 hour I was hung up on. Second time I was on hold for 1 hour 20 minutes before I got through. I eventually got them to refund the ticket but what an absolute shambles.

Sounds terrible Tezza

I find Jetstar and Qantas very 50/50

TBH I had a great Qantas experience flying international recently. Their check in tech is really good at Sydney Airport and in the sky the hosties were really on the ball.

But I wince at the price they charge. I only ever really look at them when on sale.

Jetstar I hope stays solvent. We need affordable regional flights. It’s not good Rex has gone under.

There is no financial trouble with Jetstar. They are doing very well and in no danger of shutting down.
They are purely closing Jetstar Asia down. Jetstar Asia is a subsidiary and entirely different from Jetstar. Jetstar Asia was a not financially sound and has never been. Should have been wound up years ago like Jetstar Pacific was.
The aircraft will be sent over to Jetstar or mainline Qantas whilst the 500 or so Singapore based staff will get redundancy packages.

JQ jetstar flights aren’t affected. I got the email for my flight in July, but only because we’re returning via singapore and the bkk to sing leg is jetstar asia so only that flight was cancelled.

So we got a refund for that flight and will make other arrangements to get to Singapore. Were your Australia leg flights Jetstar asia?

Can’t be.
Jetstar Asia (3K) only have the seasonal route to Broome.
All other flights to/from Australia are with Jetstar (JQ)
The 3K routes operate out of their Singapore base to various other Asian ports

That’s what l thought so l wasn’t sure why he would get the email. Unless he is flying via singapore like me and the email was only for the cancellation of the jetstar asia leg. Which is why they were reluctant to refund the full trip.

Possibly flying to/from Bangkok via Singapore.
Rather than the refund I’d get on the front foot as their policy allows you to be rebooked on Qantas group or partners for free. Qantas should put you on the direct services from Bangkok to Australia at no cost

Anyone have experience with JAL, ANA?(thinking maybe our resident frequent flyer @aceman who seems to fly more often than a long haul qantas pilot )

Think I might have posted this before.

I’d like to fly to Japan on one of their carriers from Australia.(I’ll depart Sydney so I think we have both)

Keen to know if one is a better than the other? What would you choose if you have had experience on both?

We’re going to spend a few days in Singapore. Haven’t been back there for a long time, so happy to make our own way there.

Our flights from Australia to Singapore were JQ and from Singapore to Bangkok were Jetstar Asia. We weren’t given an option we were told at first our flights are cancelled and we need to apply for a refund. 12 hours later we get an email saying instead of stopping in Singapore on the way there they can move us to a flight via Brisbane. If they told us that at the start we would have been happy to do that. To bad if you have already made other arrangements. They are just incompetent like most companies these days. We haven’t booked our flights home yet but won’t be booking with Jetstar that’s for sure.

We stopped over for a night last year in Singapore. I hadn’t been there for 20 years. We walked about 15 KLM that night around the city. It’s very nice. The F1 track was set up the night we were there. Make sure you go and have a look at the gardens with all the lights that looks like mushrooms. Beautiful place.

When l first got the email l thought all our flights had been cancelled but when l went into manage booking l could see it was only the bkk-sing leg. So l just contacted them and said to keep all the other flights and just refund the singapore leg.
Took 40 minutes to get through on live chat, but was pretty straightforward from there. The email was worded poorly though.

I did consider asking for alternative options for bkk-sing, but haven’t decided how many days to stop over in singapore yet, so just got the refund.

Definitely more airlines running better for competition and pricing. We like to go to Koh Samui alot and Bangkok airways being the only ones to fly there and from what I understand they also Own the airport in Koh Samui. No competition means they can charge what they like. Does my head in sometimes the price of flights are no different from Melbourne to Bangkok than Bangkok to Samui. The boat from Samui to Surat Thani isn’t too bad but I will never do the bus ride from Surat Thani to Bangkok again.

As far as I’m aware if you only want the BKK-SIN leg changed you have to get a refund they won’t put you on another service so you did the best thing possible
