Surely Duncan gets a week for his bump on Fox.

Downgraded, “because he’s playing Essendon”

Have seen it now, there is no way he’ll go for that.as much as Duncan ran into him, Fox ran into him too, at speed and was really low for some reason .

That said, Essendon players would go for that…

Did Duncan have his eyes on the ball ?

I’d say so. Two players accelerate to a loose ball in opposite directions, Duncan turns in at the last moment to protect himself, it’s looks like fox didn’t see him coming at all to be honest but both hit the contest at speed. There is a highlight of it in the AFL app under the relevant match

Wow,
I hear what they are saying, but I don’t think he was looking at the ball.
He saw contact coming and in my opinion lowered his shoulder a bit into the contest knowing the impact was coming.

He made no effort to win the ball, while Fox was 100% ball focussed and consequently got hammered.

I think he is in trouble.

Interesting, I thought he saw him late and turned in. Fox didn’t see him at all

There were a fair few tackles that brought players to ground and their head hit the ground so far this round, they all going to be reviewed and given a week for “the potential to cause injury”

Contact was unavoidable- saw Fox and lucky he was able to dip his body just enough to avoid head high contact.

That’s right- if the the tackler causes the opponent’s head to hit the ground, that’s deemed to be using excessive force with the potential to cause injury.

I guess you are always going to get differences of opinion.
Duncan didn’t contest the ball, he looked like he had every intention of running straight through Fox, and lowered his shoulder into the contest, some might say to protect himself, but he had to be aware Fox was vulnerable.

In my opinion you should either contest the ball and risk injury (as Fox did) or pull out or take some form of evasive action,

Edit. I can’t recall which game it was but I seem to remember someone diving over another player trying to avoid contact, still gave a way a free I think because he didn’t manage to miss, but it showed the kind of behaviour that should be displayed when you have a choice. I think Duncan had enough time to take action to minimise impact.

I think the ball was in the legitimate ‘in dispute’ zone when contact was made so it’s up to Duncan to decide how to contest the ball. Because he elected to bump he ran the risk of contact to the head but was fortunate enough to bump at the shoulder. Avoids a report in this instance.

I don’t care if it’s right or wrong. I just want him suspended.

Fox went past the ball directly at Duncan, how is he supposed to contest the ball when its behind Fox who is sliding into him at speed? Duncan should be allowed to protect himself from contact caused by Fox.

Yeah, I just looked at it again, after listening to Chris’s presser.
I didn’t take into account the fact Fox got himself out of position in the contest, in which case perhaps he had the responsibility to pull out.

Almost like “right of way” and in the circumstances Fox actually lost “right of way” and stuck is upper body into a space it had no right to be, and if you do that it’s at your own risk.

Yeah i’m not sure what else Duncan could do there. Comes back to the players getting hit/tackled needing to take some responsibility for putting themselves in that situation. Fox went full speed into that contest and dropped his knees/slid.

I can visualize this whole sorry episode becoming known as the Zachtack(le), or something similar. It is a totally farcical situation and it is only going to get worse.

Duncan free to play next week
