More govt handouts for Geelong. What a surprise.
That’s the big question, but Essendon isn’t as financially strong as you’d think. Our financial strength notion I think sticks with us like the old ‘war bonds’. But when you delve into the detail, Essendon has lost ground to its rivals and in many metrics wouldn’t be in the top 6 for financial performance and position…
Yes, it’s about premierships. But when the club recognises it needs to invest desperately into the Hangar (recovery facilities) and Windy Hill (female change-rooms / media facilities for AFLW), then this is why the club can no longer dither and stand still.
It brought forward to this year (forward 12 months) an initiative to sell ‘seats’ via name plates in the Reynolds Stand to raise $1M to fund these needed improvements. Where it’s at with this I’m not sure. But that shows the funds aren’t flowing like they once did.
It’s easier for the Suns to add to their core business.
Their core business is only 15 years in. There’s slow growth there, but they need to diversify to help get a greater holding into their core business.
If we were to begin diversifying, it wouldn’t see the light of day. Especially if we continue with our poor on field returns.
That gets your members farking annoyed, brings media pressure on to your organisation and both of those situations make decision making all the more difficult. You’re likely to have more board upheaval, a change in CEO, another change in coaching and football departments and by then you have a different set of circumstances that limits what you can do to diversify because you’re effectively starting back where you were a decade ago.
Focus on footy. Get that ■■■■ sorted and stable (we’re nowhere near stable yet), then start branching out to bigger and better things.
Just win a final and a flag. Everything else means SFA.
I’d say this is failing because your core business is failing.
Your main target market for this is your members. Who have helped fund many things in the last twenty years (such as pavers outside Windy Hill), donations for Tullamarine, membership donations through covid, etc.
There’s only so many times you can keep going to the well until it the water runs out.
If we were rocking and getting onfield results like Collingwood, Geelong, Richmond or Hawthorn, any initiative would work. Without it, it doesn’t get there.
oh good i was hoping you’d get the joke
Club Chin Chin?
Sounds like a discount brothel
The Hawks are starting a dining and massage facility in Glenferrie called TUAH.
The family friendly club.
I don’t think you can compare Kardina park with Tulla. Its Melbourne equivalent location would be Olympic park or Albert park, obviously no where near as good. Lots of local sport happens there. Once the convention centre is build it will lose all the non football stuff.
As for Chin Chin, it is a pop up that is heavily subsidised which I doubt will last in that location.
Personally I’m not a fan of Tulla but unless your Collingwood with the deal they got it is what it is
Building a multi story car park actually sounds like a good idea to me, money for jam out there.
… Dine on that thang
How many pokie machines did they fit in it?
1006 including the ones beside the urinals and cigarette machines.
