People really do NOT know the meaning of “UNDER” rated, … do they?

It means that people said they were shitt, and others disagree, and think they were great? Surely no one needs it explained?
All those last 5 films were given plaudits by the critics.
It is a relative term. Even if a movie is highly rated, it can still be underrated in the eyes of the viewer

If something is acknowledged as good, but someone believes it to be great or excellent, does that person then not believe it to be underrated?

A film can be highly rated by critics yet still be underrated.
Beautiful Girls for example would only be rated by avid movie goers. There is some subjectivity and context to it and its not all black and white.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 most people probably have never even heard of it. That makes it underrated in my opinion.
Jaws is a film that is both immensely popular and underrated.

Some are rated according to Box Office returns. Then, there are sleepers, which take off later and their status changes.
IIRC the first Mad Max was a sleeper.
Then again there are cult films which are initially underrated - like Withinail and I?
It’s a Wonderful Life supposedly bombed upon release but now is one of the most loved films of all time.
Some films can age badly and others can garner respect far later as they are viewed differently.

Arguing about the term “underrated” is an exercise in futility in a thread like this as any rating by a poster is based on their subjective view of the film in question.
There are films already mentioned here as underrated that I have seen and (imo) their very existence makes them overrated.
But that’s just my subjective opinion
