Black humour does very good business among the ‘kinder, gentler’ types. Often so called sensitive souls are hardier than straight down the line blokes and shielas when it comes to levels. Which is to say, it’s complex and not simple, and the pollution of terms like ‘woke’ for weaponisation in culture warfare should be pointed out every time. It’s very ‘basic’
I will point out that my opinions are deeply unpopular to some in these threads, so do not deserve a ban from thread.
It’s good stuff, but I concur, get the fark out
Songs are good if people enjoy them.
A few wowsers in here.
Over playing of any song (especially at sporting events) ruins a song, looking at you ‘We will rock you’
Totally agree that it’s complex. The subjectivity of what constitutes ‘black humour’ and ‘woke’ is a real thorn in the side of dialogue, as is the weaponisation of such terms. And yep, the kinder, gentler types are usually made of sterner stuff than the types that are triggered by the mere sight of the indigenous flag (my old man). And in the same breath, the compassionate and sensitive to a fault are deeply upset by what I’d personally consider black humour.
Music is one of the very best things the world has to offer. What’s ‘good’ is obviously highly subjective, but even if I were to concur on the song(s) in question, a few bars of horrendous audio quality can get in the bin, along with everyone who loves to make it sound even worse by joining in.
Now you’re a wowser if you don’t like popular crap? This thread is too hard!
the trick with black humour is that its supposed to be funny. ie: the punchline deviates from expectations.
the shittier practioners of black humour are really just doing observational bits
Yup.
Context matters.
Dwight playing celebrity head (or whatever you want to call that game) and moaning, ‘Oh god, I’m not a woman, am I?’ is freaking hilarious.
Not because we’re racist/sexist, but because we can see that he is.
But I guess there will always be those who will laugh at it completely at face value, without nuance, because he’s ‘just saying what we all really think.’
Gosh, that was a lot.
Edit: Pam being very tentative and trying so hard not to be offensive in her hint is very funny also.
It’s a good bit.
The carry on about Zach Merrett is ridiculous.
Both woke and conservative world views are ok in themselves - these ideas have their appeal and there is a certain logic to both ends of the spectrum. (Personally, I find ideological extremes to be silly in most cases, but that’s just me)
It’s the sanctimonious self-righteous certainty, the intellectual arrogance, the blind tribalism, and the double standards that put people off. And both sides of the debate have many exponents who fall into this trap.
Depends if you consider taking historical context into consideration, ‘extreme’, I guess.
Calm down. At least wait until he dies before exhuming him
That episode was so good. Just recently watched it again.
You could have used the example where Jim tricks Dwight into giving his speech like Stalin. So funny.
Not sure about you, I certainly don’t. The world would be a much better place if everyone was more historically literate.
Funny, I don’t think it’s the song that changes…
