It doesn’t even have to be that extreme.

Things people might not have cared much about, but now are important are woke. Are anti woke people really ■■■■■■ off about:

Wearing a seatbelt
Not drink driving
Recycling
Solar energy
Allergy labels on food
Not smoking on planes and in theatres

Pretty much everything could be woke since humans started walking the face of the earth.

Yep, those brilliant times when you could only drink Carlton or VB and wear black or blue otherwise you were a woke poofter.

free speech is only an issue with the right when you don’t agree with their side . and don’t you love how when you do challenge or debate their views they always say they won’t be silenced

Is the right trying to take away free speech or the left?

heavily pushed by Biden/Harris.

Labor kow towing to foreign interests re mis information bill, Australian public didn’t ask for it.
For example this legislation would allow the government to silence millions of women who object to men competing in womens events.
Could be used by any group to say we are being targetted or marginalised and silence the majority.

Where, in that spectrum, do you put banning books?

Or, stopping drag shows?

Or, banning sex ed in schools including for teens?

explain how this silencing would work . fines or prosecution for expressing opinion, or fines for hate speech maybe , fines for encouraging others to hate maybe.
where is this legislation ? or is it still being drafted by angry Facebook groups ?

I wonder if @Bomber1408 thinks it’s woke for a man to get weekly spray tans (Trump) and wear eye makeup (Vance). Biden would never.

How governments work. They don’t need a referendum every time they submit Bills for legislation . They rely on elected members to represent their electorates in deciding whether to put up a Bill, some developed through public inquiries. The BIll goes through Parliamentary Committee stages, then it goes through a vote in both Houses. The public have the opportunity to challenge the legislation through the Courts .
Legislation is regularly reviewed through the ALRC, which takes account of the impact on the public.

definitely a valid concern

however i would suspect rfk’s approach would be reducing or eliminating regulations, which probably wouldn’t be much of a solution for that problem

he doesn’t strike me as the “stronger regulations” type. happy to be wrong.

People are getting thrown in jail over social media comments in the UK.

Social media platforms would be fined significantly.
The platforms then, ban it completely or detune the algorithm so you don’t see them.

It’s only non governmental entities who are being caught by the legislation. And main stream media are also exempt from being classified as mis information or dis information.

The established political parties around the western world are losing their grip as they are not delivering for the public. trying to control information that they blame for the loss of their grip on power, rather than change their policies.

Before social media, you got covered by main stream press, they were the gate keepers.
If you couldn’t get coverage you had to publish your own publication and distribute them took weeks and months to get message out.

In the past authoritarian govt breaks the printing press, problem solved.

Now social media allows people to get information out fast, lots of view by lots of people,
What they have with this bill, is ability to turn it off.

Foundations of control

  • Removal of ideas that aren’t in line of the government.

have you seen the punter politics guy.
They have tried to shut him down, and remove him from algorithms.

Republicans are against regulation and also against breaking up monopolies. You have to be one or the other.

Monopolies / oligopolies inevitably abuse the consumer and the supply chain and economy of scale means that they just swallow up or price war to submission anything that looks like competition.

You have to either regulate them in a way that doesn’t discourage novel market entrants or break them up.

Do you think scenarios exist that warrant people being put in jail for things they share online?

US agriculture is dominated by big business agribusines, influenced by their shareholders
Employment is a factor in food processing.
As to agricultural producers, around the world, they determine government decisions on the use of harmful forever chemicals in the production process.
The US is resistant to change practices banned in other countries, such as hormonal growth promotants, chlorine washing of poultry meat and animal welfare.
Not to leave out the bits that the South and mid West agriculture strongholds are Red States.
