So you think CBN, the ABC, the BBC aren’t socialist echo chambers … I agree about Fox & Sky btw right leaning for sure
you didn’t ask me that question lol
I don’t, no.
They’ve drifted further to the centre in my lifetime. The Overton window has definitely moved to a centralist zone-maybe even a tad right leaning- from the post Howard years. You could correlate the rise/influence of News Corp and other right-leaning media outlets with this pretty easily.
The rise of the internet, and corresponding “news” outlets that are not vetted/controlled/fact checked has also been a large influence. The ability for anyone to post “opinion” as “fact” has become far too easy, and muddied the waters in the now post Trump 2016 “fake news” era. Populism has replaced policy, and it is far easier to propagate a false narrative than to eventually have to debunk it. Once its out there with no “parameters”, all the rules are off.
I’ve seen from your posts that you are not a fan of some mainstream news outlets. (that’s your opinion, and fair enough for you to express that), I just feel that your worldview is a little skewed from non-traditional media.
We need outlets like BBC/ABC/CBC to balance out the message.
And I agree balance is very important.
The rise in popularity of Sky in Oz can be linked to the socialist propaganda that was continually spewing out of the ABC & SBS for decades IMO … tax payer funded organisations that were & still are, delivering left leaning & bias content that targets a large portion of Australians negatively, who I might add……pay a large portion their wages.
They should report for ALL Australia with balanced fact checked news & articles instead of their “one view of the world”
I think what you are hoping for is an idealised dream that will never exist in reality.
The balance ABC and SBS can bring is being an alternative to profit driven news/opinion sources. This will push biases in different directions than are inevitable when you have to be selling.
That’s the balance they can bring. And given the extremely concentrated nature of commercial media ownership in Australia I think we need it.
The issue is opinion pieces and clickbait masquerading as news. There are plenty on both sides.
The biggest issue with a question of “can media be trusted” is how we have become accustomed to defining “media” vs how we should define “news”
AP, Reuters and, in the US, PBS deliver news without attempting to force fit a narrative. Problem is, a lot of folks dismiss them precisely because of that.
US cable “news” has done a lot of damage along the way, agreed.

Can you see Putin’s hand up Donnie’s arse?
Or that doesn’t bother you? You - and a few others - seem obsessed with “the left” , “communism” , allege puppet masters yada yada yada yet have zero expectations or any sort of standards for your side. No matter how reprehensible and dishonest they are.
Somehow, your contempt for “elites and wokes” translates to support of a sociopathic self proclaimed billionaire who has never mixed with anyone but “elites”, has attracted Russian help in election campaigns and is tacitly racist, praises neo Nazis, is completely misogynistic and has rebelled against the constitution. None of which you want to address.
It’s kinda easy to see why RWNJ’s are so okay with Russia now.
Autocratic leader.
Seriously “anti-woke”, which in this case can be read as pro (or at the very least unfazed by) persecution of minorities.
A voracious appetite for sycophantic choose your own reality media.
They miss those crazy four years where America’s neo nazis were emboldened to be out and proud in public. The glory years.
It’s reverse-racism to deny Nazis the right to protest.

As to unconscious bias, believing what we want to believe , how much are we programmed into bias by the constant stream of fear and rage bait in MSM streams, headlines that misinform of the facts? Journalists who are prevented from reporting , who have no control over the editing of their stories. So many so-called investigative journalists who go for sensationalism to get an award.
Group think is one of the worst forms of censorship. On social media , If the facts don’t suit the narrative, tarnish the reputation of those who present the facts or raise relevant questions. McCarthyism at its worst.
The latest story, headlined that Zoe Daniel has been referred to the NACC. Justin Falinski ( a Lib who lost his seat to an Independent) has lodged a complaint about one of her staffers, part of a campaign for Tim Wilson to wrest back the seat. Anyone can lodge a complaint, it doesn’t mean there is any element of corruption - but it hits the headlines.
Then you have Nick McKenzie exposing corruption in the CFMEU, but leaving out the bits of the corrupters corrupting the Unions. It is no different from corruption of cops.
You would know from the Saga how the AFL manipulated the media, leaving out the bits, going so far as to put up pics of Hird, Bomba and co looking like sleazy dodgy crims. Not a good look, where’s there smoke there’s fire stuff.
The media and journalists were all aggrieved with the viewing audience at Covid daily pressers by Premiers and experts. We all had a direct stake in being informed and could make up our own minds without any spin by the media.
The public funding of the ABC and the way in which they are funded influences their presentations and stories. The ABC has taken to bury its best reporting in podcasts or online , which hardly ever get on the regular audio or TV at regular viewing times. The ABC is cowed, reactionary, forever apologetic that it will get bad press in the commercial media. The BBC is no different, so-called balance, working from the agenda of the right.
And those are just his better points.
The US used to have a fairness doctrine which was eliminated under Reagan under lobbying from Fox.
Many see that as the beginning of the polarisation of politics over there.
Look at the bright side, with crowds so small, there’s less to walk out when they get bored of his rambling nonsense.
I know someone who worked at the ABC in a support role, nothing to do with journalism. They did see the contortions that the journalists went through to avoid any hint of bias in their reporting. They compromised and went to unreasonable efforts to ensure balance in reporting. And then when the piece came out it would be marked as leftist biased and they’d be defending themselves to the Liberals in power.
The reputation of the ABC and the reality are two very different things.
