US politics - is weird (part 6)

She brought up won 2010 election won 3 weeks after opponent declared victory.

Cooley views Harris’ narrow win as the product of pure partisanship, with other statewide Democratic successes trickling down the ballot to her. He also asserted, without providing evidence, that there may have been voter fraud with provisional ballots.

Wasn’t much in interview touched on abortion ban. tried to call it a “trump abortion ban”

His plan is just leave it up to the states, so hardly a trump abortion ban.

no hard hitting questions.

When youre influenced by this gargoyle of a human being, you are pretty ■■■■■■:

It would seem that MAGA voters believe that the current criminal and civil charges and the impeachments, have a political origin. The reality is that Trump had an inculcated criminal mind and was already a criminal before he came down the escalator. Political power just gave him more scope for criminal action.

Half of american voters are ready to vote for a criminal as the POTUS.

Its difficult to believe.

Seems to be targeting those “Red States”. The ones that don’t believe in science.

October surprise will be Milton. Projections are that Tampa Bay will be hit with a storm surge of about 4 metres preceded by flooding rains . This will effect more than 500,000 Tampa residents alone.
One would hope evacuation planning is well and truly in place. Many will be already on choked freeways getting out early.

But MAGA wants the response to be a disaster in itself. Accordingly, The requested FEMA funding increase has been denied by House Leader Johnson. Biden has verbally committed all discretionary funding to Ukraine. Lets hope he can delay that actual disbursement, and put some into FEMA.

Otherwise we might be seeing successful politicisation of a domestic emergency within 2 to3 weeks of the election. Its a worry.

The funding for Ukraine is largely Presidential Drawdown Authority. That means sending equipment and ammunition from stores to another nation.

I don’t see how Tampa Bay is going to get value from a company of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles or 400 pallets of 155mm artillery ammunition.

There is no bank account of Ukraine money that can be diverted to FEMA. That is a GOP misinformation play. The US government has plenty of money if Congress decides to let it flow. This is the coldest of political plays, letting a massive natural disaster cause preventable human suffering to service political goals.

After the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983, Fraser and Hawke both suspended campaigning. There were no accusations that Fraser as PM was campaigning when he visited Victoria and SA, it was the right thing to do as PM.

For Tampa Bay, its double whammy, they are just starting cleanup and resident support and are being evacuated . Any work done to date will be wiped out by this surge, which will be 1 metre higher than Helene.
I have lived through the chaos of a CAT3 verging on 4 cyclone aftermath, the Australian army were deployed, mainly to bring in and connect gensets to restore power. Even though our house was on the beach there was no significant storm surge .

Residents of Tampa are and will be living a world of hurt. The path may also effect Orlando, but little or no storm surge problem likely there and the category will drop fast after landfall.

This stuff from Trump either disgusts you or it doesn’t. And if it doesn’t, and you still think he’s your guy… well, there you go, that’s who you are.

Roger Stone comes across as a very quick witted mind. Maybe he is highly intelligent, with a long career in political lobbying and strategising should have made a few $$
Strange then that estimates of his net worth are just $50000. Clearly he is very good at hiding his assets, unlike Donald who wants to see himself on the Forbes 400, but alas , for him, he has dropped off it.

However it’s a close contest, millions of US voters prefer Trump.

Yeah, I know, but there’d be probably a vast majority who don’t look deep into election promises or speeches or whatnot, just the vibe and a vague understanding.

But when you have the chance to read his quotes about pure blood, rounding up migrants, poisoning etc. and you think either: yes I feel the same, or meh, even knowing he thinks like that doesn’t bother me, something is a bit concerning about you.

What a ridiculous system!

I think its happened a couple of times here, maybe for a day or 2, but for 1 party to decide they can bloke the governing party from issuing emergency aid, is just another reason why that country is ■■■■■■!

Understatement of the decade.

Perhaps it’s American history that makes it more acceptable to be racist than the norms of other democracies, where overt racism is beyond the pale.

That’s an interesting angle, I wonder what kind of literature is out there about this.

“What happened to that lovely family who moved in down the street last year, and those sweet kids we used to play with at the park?”

“Yeah Trump kicked those murderers out.”

It’s a good example of what’s going to happen when climate change really hits the fan.

The people who don’t believe in it will find something else to blame eg government controlling the weather or Jewish space lasers and eventually they will turn to magical sky gods.

Going to be depressing to watch.
