US politics - is weird (part 6)

I wasn’t talking or mentioned Jan 6 at all? I was more referrng to the panic of him first taking office and it being a flop.

That entire post is waffling, invented strawmen , Craze. Jumped straight to hyperbolic , condescending nonsense . Happy to have a difference of opinion and discussion, but don’t ■■■■ on my back and pretend it’s raining.

Also withdrew from UNESCO and scuttled progress with Iran on nuclear weapons, both against US foreign policy interests.
He ran through advisors, from apolitical experts and hung off that warmonger Bolton until he got tired of him. Even Bolton was too temperate for him. And Vance is cut from a different cloth from Pence.
The second time around he would have more appreciation of the levers of government , but this may lead him to freeze out different arms of government and do a Morrison. He could destroy the competents in the public sector, with great harm to the US in international relations as well as the proper administration of domestic policies.

I don’t think the two can be separated. Jan 6 was a direct consequence of his election.

If you don’t want me to ■■■■ on your back and pretend it’s raining, then don’t ■■■■ on mine and pretend you actually want to have rationale, qualified and intelligent discussions over policies. You don’t want discussion, you don’t want a bar of discussion and that’s the problem because the only discussion you want is how much you hate Trump and that is boring to me.

You want me to spew hatred and filth about Trump and his followers, and that’s just not me. I said I’ve already criticised Trump (fact) and that I don’t believe I should tarnish an entire set of supporters/followers because I believe there are still good people in there. If this isn’t good enough for you, then that’s your issue. But I’ll continue to criticise both, so get used to it. I’ve tried to have discussions about Kamala and her policies but once again get dragged down this stuff and it’s boring. I’m not having a go at you ftr.

Fair call, it wasn’t my point I was originally making, but your point is also correct.

It’s pretty simple to me. Trump supporters are either dumb as dog :poop: or have a personality disorder.

I agree with your original point that, policy-wise, “nothing” happened, or at least nothing which would separate him from any other Republican president.

He accomplished nothing which would justify the rabidity or stubbornness of his supporter base.

Why did you think that?

Please change “could” to “would”: this is explicit Project 2025 policy.

Ideal opportunity for “why not both” meme.

Do I? Or do I want you to stop excusing ■■■■ such as Jan 6 , falsely alleging election fraud, encouraging his minions to hang the VP etc as just the pithy “his ego got the better of him and became a sore loser” ? Again, this completely undersells just how dangerous his methods and the outcomes can be. Likewise his praise of (and now fraudulent distancing from) Project 2025 and its creators. All of this stuff sets the parameters for what he wants, and maybe more importantly what his supporters think he wants. You jumped to hatred, moral superiority and whatever other claptrap you brought up. I’m just asking you to evaluate where his methods lead.

He farking loaded the courts and got Roe overturned, just for an entree. He’s not just a clown stumbling about and even if he were this time around he’ll have concerted fiends doing the deeds and any pesky oversight removed immediately.

I mean, ffs, he was doing thumbs up and grinning by the graves of these ‘losers’ in war, in a grossly inappropriate and capaigning showing against the Arlington rules. And then his thugs abused cemetery staff and officials. Gtfo

@Crazy_Bomber I definitely don’t want to get in to a protracted back and forth but saying that “nothing” happened due to Trump’s election is extremely myopic.

  • The US came within an inch of losing its democracy. Mike Pence and his advisors were literally all that stood between a transition of power and something far worse.
  • Tyrants around the world remain emboldened due to Trump cosying up to them for photo ops - Putin, Kim Jong Un, Orban etc.
  • Close to 1 Million Americans lost their lives when many of them would not have due to his bungled response to the pandemic and, let’s not forget, his firing of the U.S. pandemic response team in 2018 to cut costs. This impacted not just the US but likely you, in Australia.
  • Children (repeat, children) were put in cages at the border and separated from their families.
  • The lives of women in the US have been put at risk due to him stacking a court that overturned Roe v Wade
  • 45 Million Americans would no longer have had affordable healthcare were it not for a McCain thumbs down
  • On a personal level, his racist immigration policies which overwhelmingly impacted brown families looking to reunite, meant I was unable to see my mother for 3yrs.

So, did the world “end”? No. Did it suffer needless harm which continues to resonate till today? Most definitely.

His return will be far worse.

Reports coming out now of over 60 fake accounts [so far] launched by Trump campaign purporting to be women supporting Trump. They have the exact same wording and stolen photos of attractive young European women re-positioning them as Trump fans. Images also changed words on any T shirts or caps they were wearing to MAGA slogans.

It’s faster to type exclusively in caps, saves having to use the shift key.
