US Politics Thread - Post Mueller Edition

Good idea.

A great way to do that would be to have their Election Day on a Saturday when working people could actually find it easier to vote.

As much as I like the idea of them tying in their Presidential elections with the Melbourne Cup, this is not why they have it on a Tuesday.Instead, they have it then because that was calculated in the 18th Century for convenience for farmers to vote when they could come to town for market day.

Calling it juvenile click bait massively underestimates the impact. Put aside for one minute any talk of swinging an election. The Russians were able to get all sorts of things to happen - beyond their wildest dreams.

For example, in Texas they were able to create and a movement (anti Islam) and then pitch to Texans a protest where hundreds showed up. While they were doing that, they made up a pro Islam / anti fascist group and got hundreds to turn up to protest the protestors.

Neither group existed and no protest was organized until St Petersburg started working on it. Cost about $200.

The levels of discontent and anger they were able to create and inflame is insane.

They would be viewing the 2016 attacks as the most effective attack on the west ever, including anything that happened during Soviet times. If you think it was just a few hundred thousand dollars worth of Facebook ads you are sadly mistaken.

Dump is getting more Hitler-esque by the day, He’s like a grotesque Orange caricature of him.

You just have to believe there’s enough decent Yanks In that fcked up joke of a country to see this prick dumped arsse backwards out of the Whitehouse as soon as they get their next chance.

Surely they won’t let this stand now.

Not so sure, mate :frowning:

Trump will be re-elected because it’s easier to hate someone different to you than to like them. This is what he feeds on.

I am not so sure.

Trump played this card, if not quite so explicitly, leading up to the mid-terms and it did not work for him or the GOP.

It’s a losing move for him, but he can’t help himself firstly and secondly if his rally cultists start up on it he is not one to push back.

United States President Donald Trump has distanced himself from supporters’ chants of “send her back” after he criticised Somali-born Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar at a rally in North Carolina.

“I felt a little bit badly about it,” Mr Trump told reporters at the White House when asked about the chants.

“I would say that I was not happy with it. I disagreed with it. But again I didn’t say that. They did. And I disagreed with.”

He said he “would certainly try” to stop the chant should it return at a subsequent rally.

It will be interesting if he tries. And he is being rather disingenuous, he really did start it with those tweets.

He started it by telling them to go back to where they came from. It’s one thing for the likes of minor politicians Fraser Anning and Pauline Hanson to talk this way and to get fringe support but get called out, but when the President of the USA says it, he is speaking from his position of holding the office of a powerful leader with the capacity to give action to his words.

As if he doesn’t have cheer leaders placed in the audience to ensure this sort of things is well orchestrated.

It’s almost funny (if it wasn’t so macabre and frankly, dangerous to the physical safety of so many) to see that in an age where we have the entire knowledge generated by humanity in the palm of our hands, ignorance and stupidity are driving the bus.

Epic.

Where are you getting this from? That’s some serious disinformation. According to TechCrunch, Clinton and Trump spent a combined $81M USD on Facebook ads while the IRA spent a paltry $73K!

This idea that Russian troll farm workers managed to sow chaos in American society with juvenile Facebook ads, ads that nobody saw. Most of which were paid for after the election, further had nothing to do with the election.

The IRA stuff was amateurish, the most shared pre-election Facebook ad was a cartoon of a gun wielding Yosemite Sam ffs!

Just bogus stuff.

Reminds me of another fat pr ick saying “I didn’t inject anyone.”

Some serious disinformation…???

There are so many aspects of this and you are just looking at ads bought. That is probably the most irrelevant part of the entire program.

Made up news stories, groups, people, issues were planted in layers and then disseminated across Facebook in particular. Often they would be picked up by fringe media dnd sometimes MSM who wouldn’t fact check and they would be massively amplified reach millions of people who all thought it was legit and in most cases it reinforced their views driving them further left and right and slowing any questioning of facts about the issue.

Using every psychological technique but especially confirmation bias they managed to sow distrust and fear.

These techniques were perfected during the soviet era and proved to be insanely successful in fracturing US society.

To talk about paid ads is like having a red Suzuki Swift next to a McClaren F1 car and saying the Swift is faster because it’s red. Your a very long way from what the relevant issues are here.

That is nonsense from Big D. He basked in it like it he was an English tourist on the beaches of Jamaica. He lead them up to it prior to, and during, his speech.

Maybe not the exact phrase “send them back” - I can accept the possibility that was entirely spontaneous but he knew what he was playing with. This isn’t his first dance at the racism rodeo. He was Birther-In-Chief before he was Commander-In-Chief. He told a judge that they couldn’t do their job because they were “Mexican”. The list is long but unlike Slider’s johnson, not distinguished.

Is he suggesting that with a microphone and wearing the mantle of President he was too afraid to voice the contemporaneous thought “oh wait guys, not that” he says he was having?

He’s probably lying to himself as much as everyone else with that statement.

I think his team might be hell bent on stopping the crowd starting it again, because I don’t think it is in his nature to contradict a crowd of fans.

We’ll see. But for the moment “dishonest nonsense” is my reaction. Meaning DJT of course, IT, not your self.

He let them chant it for 13 seconds before he started speaking again. It will now be a feature of his rallies for the next 16 months.

He’s very happy about it. He wants to make the 4 representatives the face of the democratic party so he can continue his “socialists, immigration, hate america” rants to get his base cranked up.
