His skill and ability as a caller was always apparent, but never more so than after his retirement when the field was flooded with absolute â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– led by Brain Farking Taylor.

He and Bruce were an all-time commentary pairing, across any sport.
While Dennis will be remembered fondly for his dry wit and use of metaphors, it shouldn’t be forgotten that he used these in service of the game.
He loved footy, and there were few commentators whose love of the game was reflected in their commentary better than Dennis

Very few people in any field become living legends , and almost universally admired. Dennis was one of those rare few.

The team of Dennis, Bruce, Sandy Roberts, Drew Morphett, Ian Robertson and Rexy will never be topped. They were the voice of the game for me growing up in the ’90s.

As I said in the other thread…
I don’t think it’s unfair to suggest that TV football coverage died when he pulled the pin (though even then, it felt like the TV execs had forced him to become a caricature in his last couple of years).

This is very sad. Straight up the best commentator footy has been lucky enough to have.
Doesn’t feel right. The bloke should have lived to 100. Not a day older, not a day younger. That would have been cm perfect.
