VFL 2016 list finalised

Current list of signings that I am aware of at the moment:
Polkinghorne
Schroder
Ferry
Coghlan
Langford
Heavyside
Heppell
McNiece
Muller

Not a bad list at this stage of the year in my opinion, anyone know what hardingham’s plans are?

Please add more if anyone knows of any!

Same article also notes Alex McLeod may play more at St Bernard’s and less (not at all?) at Essendon.

Pre sure Hardy signed up as an assistant (playing???) coach at some local team. I think Pascoe Vale.

I suspect Tagliabue will be offered another year, if he wants it.

YOU FORGOT ELMO!

From Dunlop, previously:

James El Moussali, a 186, 83kg “medium midfielder”. He only played a 3rd of the season for Northern Knights after injuring his shoulder, but did enough to earn a state screening invite.

Victor Carboni, a 19yr old 178, 74 kg player from Aberfeldie (played for the Cannons last season).

So for all VFL players is it “Welcome to Windy Hill” or “Welcome to the TVSC”?

In other words do they train separately from the AFL squad or do they join in the drills?

They’re at the TSVC, but train separately (generally).

The seniors need the second field during training to host all the injured guys…

It’s always just, "Welcome to Esssendon … Player X " …

“You lucky, lucky, … b@stard”.

Imagine the reception you’d get with
“welcome to bendigo”

No wonder we struggled

VC is a champ. Serious wheels and great bloke to boot. Dare say we’ll groom as a small forward.

yep. saw him play a game for Abers last year. Agree about the seriousness of his wheels. My nephew was in the same team and both were invited up for VFL pre-season training, but unfortunately my nephew was cut. Both a bit too short and light for my liking, but Victor had greater pace and was a longer kick. Hope he can bridge the gap from EDFL to VFL.

I’m guessing all these guys have just been added to the senior list

Have Tags and Milham been delisted?

@Dunlop mentioned signing of El Moussali & Carboni but I haven’t heard of any others.
With only 10 weeks until first game does anyone know what our VFL side is looking like?

I’d say its looking depleted

It is a pretty common industry practice amongst stand-alone sides to only announce the signings of players with some name recognition (VFL, ex-AFL) plus re-signings.

If the new guys are coming from TAC/regional/local comps you’re probably not going to hear much until list lodgements are due, given the extenuating circumstances this year I think you’ll also find a much greater contingent than normal being signed based on pre-season games as with VFL players like Polkinghorne and possibly Ferry or Langford being EFC listed they might need to find late extra depth cover like the seniors.

The only other player related Essendon VFL news I’ve heard/read is Alex Marklew, a 19yr old speedy forward/mid from Wangaratta Rovers was training with the squad - kicked 63 goals in 38 games over the last 2 seasons.

There's probably half the ring-ins will start in the Ressies just to get their fitness levels back. None of them did preseason with the club prior to the CAS announcement.

ST BERNARD’S expects to retain at least 15 members of its drought-breaking Victorian Amateur Football Association premiership team for a tilt at back-to-back flags this year.

The Snowdogs have lost Simon Caven (Coburg), Andrew Merrington (retired), Tom Gleeson (Strathmore) and Ben Ronke (Calder Cannons), while Mitch Hannan (Footscray), Alex Boyse and Chris Peart (Essendon) could feature at VFL level.

We’ve signed Nash Holmes (180, 74kg) from Gippsland Power, he was a tough inside mid when I last saw him in 2014. He was named in the TAC Team of the Year last season.
