Having just surfaced from Mad Monday following disappointing Sunday I’m able to submit the last selection of VFL photos for 2015. It’s been fun attendingVFL games this year, particularly after the level of s**t commentary still thrown around at Essendon senior games by opposition supporters and media alike.
I have been fortunate to see a number of young and not so young VFL players grow in skills and confidence during this year and would be surprised if some don’t go on to have successful AFL careers. For a couple of our supplementary players, I only hope that their advancement through to AFL still sees them wearing the red and black.
Anyway, on to the final episode of pics…
During the latter part of 2015, the “Jarmy Army” started to grow in size and commitment. It was great to see the numbers behind the goal yesterday.
During the player warm up even Jarmy Army members can take a mark and light a ■■■ at the same time!
…then we had the Blitz Executive Committee deep in discussion about game tactics and number of Jim Beams to be consumed, while DJR points in the direction he lost his Jarmy top!
…and here the boys come led by Rigga and Hardy
Tippa fired up for a big game.
Browney deep in thought
…and finally, our heavy weights in FatArse and Smack.Still having trouble entering any beauty contests!!
Ashby drives the ball forward on his left and…misses the target.
Conor comes from the back of the pack to perform a two in one…he takes a spectacular hangar and improves FatArses looks with the one action!
Tayta clears the ball out of defence.
Taglliabue shares a few “don’t argue” with Willy players, watched on by the coaches.
It’s mid way through the 3rd quarter and Cogs has shrugged his first half tagger and provides strong midfield drive to help the Dons back into the contest.
Kav! got plenty of the ball but his kicking for goal in the last let the team down.
Heavyside cleverly centres the ball but to no avail.
…and last but not least, after the final siren
Smack goes down on his haunches and thumps the turf in frustration as the season ends. I thought this pic reflected the season that was - lots of unrewarded effort and continued frustration for the EFC. It does also symbolise the commitment and effort specifically given by Shaun McKernan . When I first observed him in pre-season training I was unconvinced he had the tools to make it. How wrong I have been. His strength at the contest and his willingness to compete with 100% effort for the full four quarters should be an inspiration to many others at Essendon. Good luck for 2016 Smack!
