There is certainly a chance. The way it is going, you and I might have to line up on the wings before the end of the season. If he hadn’t missed so long with his foot, I’d say yes, but he was out for 8 weeks and also had an interrupted pre-season so I am not sure his tank is very big right now. I think he will play AFL, but I think it will be in 2027 (or maybe late 2026). If he got picked this year, he would not look foolish though. I don’t think he will and I don’t think he should, but he is a chance. If McGrath went down, he would perhaps come in.
Every time I watch VFL, Hately plays a good game. Sure can get the ball, kicks well, tackles hard, seems to be unlucky not to be on an AFL list.
As a kid, his father was a very good runner but I don’t think Jackson is as quick as his father was.
So you reckon he is one of those blokes who can be a solid performer in VFL but just not up to the top level ?
GWS or Adelaide drafted him and he was delisted.
Actually, no. What I meant was that I think if he was a little quicker, the recruiters would fawn over him. Because he lacks a yard, they dismiss him. As I indicated above, I think he is really stiff not to be on a list. He is a better player than many people who are on a list–at least ten or twenty percent of players on a list are lesser than him. After being at GWS and Adelaide though, I do not think he will get another shot and I think that is unfortunate for him. I would love him to stay at Essendon VFL and be captain long term but I doubt that will happen either.
What do you think, Bacchus?
I have been impressed by his effort and his ability in VFL. Thought he was better than Smartz, but nearly 25 so it goes against him.
Hard to say, but seems better than Prior
Haha yes I’m doing my mini preseason at the moment just in case!
Hope he can make it, he’s a nice kid and he always seems to have the right attitude, hope he can get there.
