Unfortunately it was still a lot of AFL-listed guys who failed to step up tonight. Yeah, they’ve lost the cream, but basic ■■■■ like seeing there’s an opponent in the goal square when you’re thirty out and kicking a low pass to them is just not good enough!
Our VFL listed players aren’t that crash hot this year, really missing those experienced VFL hard-bodied midfielders in the Duscher/ZO’B mold, it’s what separates us for the top teams.
Whatever happened to Nash Holmes ?
Gone to FarkNorf
Clarke, Mynott and Mutch in the middle do anything?
What’s our losing streak up to?
Six games
Keeps the toe jam cool!
Thanks for your efforts DJ.
What’s happened to us? World beaters early, then crap. Odd draw or something?
Or most of our good players from the VFL are either playing AFL or injured. Off the top of my head: McKernan, Langford, Redman, Francis, Brown, McNeice could maybe even include Colyer there. Plus they held Laverde, Green and Ridley out specifically of this game. That’s nearly half a team, big difference.
Zerk only 4 touches?
Seems a bit disappointing considering Hanna had 21
DJR, what role did they play?
Pretty much the same role, key defenders along with Hartley.
The difference surprises me though. In terms of shutting down their man they weren’t massively different (not that I pay any attention to the opposition).
In the wet cold conditions, none of our players reached 100 DreamTeam points. Draper “won” with 8 kicks (zero handballs), propped up by his game-leading 37 hit-outs plus 5 tackles.
In further DreamTeam order, and remembering it doesn’t take disposal efficiency into account…
HepA 26 (game-leading) — hence my whinge when he started on the bench at the start of the last quarter
Mutch 24
Mynott 25
Hocking 18
Hind 24
Hartley 20
Clarke 20
Collins 9 and 1.1 and 6 tackles
Hanna 21 (14 were handballs) and 4 marks, at least 2 of which were contested clunks
Stewart only managed to beat Bruno Laguda, back after a year off.
Harry Taylor started fast, then disappeared: 8 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal.
We lost Inside Fifties 38-57
Just another example of work rate & quality players up the ground, and / or the lack thereof, can make defenders look like Hero’s or Zero’s.
It would be handy if we could get Hanna as a category B rookie
Official listing:
Goal Kickers: L. Collins, M. Leuenberger, S. Draper, J. Houlahan
Best Players: T. Mynott, A. Heppell, K. Mutch, S. Draper, N. Hind, M. Hartley
(I didn’t particularly notice Mutch, but he was better than Hind, who was very very good and horrid. Mynott had quite a few classy moments.)
Turns out the usually-lightweight VFL MRP decisions are offered to AFL players too. Extracting the urine a bit to call the two sling tackles “low” impact, though.
I didn’t see Houlahan’s report. The match video is up and he didn’t get near it that often, someone go find it.

Goals plus a few not-very highlights:
Full game up.
What on earth have we done to Dyl? Just not getting the touches.
