For God’s sake we aren’t go to play JD in the vfl, stop it.
Franga might just have played himself out of contention last night too

I hope they value this VFL finals series opportunity.
Winning is important.
Just finished up a swim on the Gold Coast with my boys fwiw.
Thanks for all the commentary guys
Yay for a win. Any win is a win.
I’d love to see him play vfl, if he’s fit he’s fit. Boats aren’t built for the harbour and all that.
Surely it would be good for Franga’s development to play.
One more AFL game next week, then VFL finals
VFL youngsters need protection.
MUST have a Franga.
I don’t disagree but in the past the club has preferred to pack senior players in cotton wool
Thank you for the commentaries @theDJR. It feels good seeing the team back in the eight after a horror run of defeats.
Great result. Thanks for the commentary.

FOOTSCRAY
Goal Kickers: A. Monfries 2, A. Tashevski-Beckwith, T. English
Best Players: B. Olsson, M. Honeychurch, L. Nash, T. English, A. Monfries, L. Dalgleish
I did not look up Dalgleish’s number before today and could not tell you a single thing he did.
Great team effort, pressure and body clashes in the tough conditions. Holding them goal-less in the second half was top grade, and exactly the disciplined approach we need to smash Fark Northern next week (who actually won today) and to win finals.
I loved Long’s third quarter.
Hocking (both Heath and dad) loved the biffo, don’t think Monfries appreciated it as much.
Stewart played his first good game for months.
Great getting four goals from our dual rucks/full forwards.
LAV had some strong cameos in the middle, zero while forward.
Younan is deep in a slump, with fellow Seagull Squad member Green also not doing much.
Our 23rd man kicked half as many goals as Footscray…
Stolen from the VFL website’s Saturday summary:
IN A NUTSHELL: The Bombers kept Footscray goalless in the second half at Windy Hill – which certainly lived up to its name on a wild Melbourne day – to emphatically keep their finals hopes alive. Scores were level at half time before Essendon accelerated to victory with eight unanswered majors following the main break.
KEY MOMENTS: A five-goal third quarter from the Bombers ensured the Bulldogs would need to just about double their score to that point to prevail. Footscray did kick with the wind in the final term but could only manage five behinds as Essendon’s defence held strong.
LEADING GOALKICKERS: Essendon – Stewart 3, Leuenberger 3, J. Brown 2 / Footscray – Monfries 2
FORMLINES: Essendon (8-9) snapped a six-match losing streak to replace the Bulldogs in eighth spot and now just needs to defeat the Northern Blues next week to secure a September berth. / Footscray (8-9) was unable to shut the door on the top eight for the second week running, this loss – its fifth defeat in six games – seeing it tumble to ninth position.
NEXT UP: Essendon vs Northern Blues (Windy Hill) / Footscray vs Port Melbourne (VU Whitten Oval)
That wind is now causing some seroius mischief. SCREEEEEEEEEAMING into the WIndy Hill grandstand. Dons by 7#DonTheSash

Jacob Brown (the one being doused during the theme above) gets his jumper:
Friendship with AFL team over. VFL new best friend.
Younan 4 Disposals: 4 kicks, 1 goal, 3 behinds.
Good to see Clarke and Ridley in the best after a lean few weeks. @theDJR is this accurate? How did you think they went?
Also , would appreciate your opinion of how Houlihan, Zork, Mynott and Draper went.
He finished the game on the bench with his ankle iced and a limp.
