VFL Wrap with @Paul_Cousins on the sash podcast
VFL won 8 out of last 10 and lost one of those by a kick.
Good win against a tough side
Dissapointed with the first half of the year. Everyone was working hard to improve.
Werribee hit the front with a minute to go, thankfully Jye Menzie snapped a ripper and we got the win. Francis took a nice mark down back and drove it long down the middle and we got a contest down the the middle, Menzie was able to get front and centre and run to 30-40 and slot the winner.
Jye Menzie small forward - like him, real player there, prototypical small forward, very good at reading the footy off the contest, has real goal sense, mercurial Xfactor goal sense, has grown up playing as a small forward and knows the role well, quick off the mark and bigger than you think, and a solid unit. strong, stocky which allows him to crack in offensively and defensively, when footy on the ground hes at his strongest. Pretty unlucky to go out after his debut at AFL level where got 10 -11 touches. Has came back to VFL level and not put a foot wrong. Only knock is he has tried to give a few goals off to bring team mates in, but sometimes needs to be a bit more selfish as a small forward.
Alwyn Davey, didnt get a lot of footy but was imapactful when he did, goal was a beautiful snap off a rogue ball, was difficult conditions, wind howling into one goal face, made it difficuly, he handled the conditions well, had some really nice moments, kicked one out on the full, but didnt get down on himself, didnt look out of place thats for sure. I was out at training last week, him and Jayden his brother were both out there and both integrated into the group really well. Great to see him in the red and black.
Zach Reid Forward - with the wind, but played as a spare in the defence when going into the wind 7th defender role. Started on the wing and worked his way down there. took some nice marks forward and back, high teens disposals, had a high impact game regardless of disposals, was a stand out on the day, in the best handful. Terrific team performance.
Who are the contenders for the VFL B & F
- Brandon Zerk-Thatcher was fantastic at VFL Level when here 12-13 games?
- Brad Bernacki - came in mid year, but played 8-10 games impactful.
- Joe Atley - started the season well, had a bit of a form drop but was consistent
- Bryan, Phillips & Ham when playing VFL good but played AFL as well
- Cian McBride & Josh Eyre played every game but been solid
- Conforti played every game and been good.
Tom Hird has had a solid year at VFL level
Cootee has had a terrific second half of the year for us.
Dave Barham - spent 2 years with him on the board he is a terrific Fella, one of the Pioneers of the BBL, He is a change merchant, not afraid of shaking things up, has the best interest of the footy club at heart.
The fact that not a lot of people know about him, is due to the fact he has been putting footy club first not about the notoriety.
