VFLW - miscellaneous comments and articles

Normally the VFLW VFL fixture is out by now. Any hints on when it might be out?

Season is still 8 weeks away.

But the real reason is BFY,TW.

That’s just bastardry at this point. Player match payments for the entire VFLW side total less than 2 grand a week. FFS.

I don’t get this tax thing.
If it’s $50-100 a week you’ll fall under the tax threshold, and you can’t claim boots etc against your primary taxable income unless footy is earning you over $20K(ish).

There’s a salary on top of the match payment, which boosts the total above 20k I believe.

Which they would (presumably) be able to claim travel etc against?
Of all the things wrong with the whole scenario just seems like an odd one to single out.

Looks like Alana B and Renee T are playing for Norf again.

You get more for match payments in local women leagues. (the top women). I know an Ammo team lost a player to an Eastern club for $200 a game.

The rebel VFLW competition will consist of the same 12 full-time clubs who have featured in the competition for the past four seasons. The GWS Giants and Sydney Swans won’t feature in the rebel VFLW this year after playing five invitational matches in 2024.

Halle-bloody-lujah!!!

Pies, Casey, Hawks = double-ups with the other mid-four teams.

Casey and Cats away in successive weeks.

Coates Talent League (Girls) to run April 5th to August 23rd (and then finals).

  • League bye same time as VFLW round 1.
  • Calder byes in VFLW rounds 6 + 9 + 12 + 13
  • Bendigo byes in VFLW rounds 6 + 8/9/10 (!) + 13

Haven’t worked out how many of those match State matches or the like, or why Bendigo have a 4 week gap between matches!

For my own reference, the first Calder v Bendigo match clashes with VFLW round 4 (and is in Bendigo). They meet again more locally between VFLW rounds 13 and 14, by which point we hopefully have borrowed their guns already.

Never let it be said that Mia didn’t have a red hot go at life.

Don’t know if this has been posted already.
I think it’s a bad look on the club.

Hopefully we can get more bums on seats this season. I know I will attend more games

Yes, discussed further up in this different thread I’ve moved your post to.

Elliott is a slightly-more-cunning Sheargold (and at a “we can make money from anti-woke” station).

Haven’t seen any club confirmed as still paying (i.e. Port and us might have been the last still paying).

Radio 3DJR also doesn’t pay its colour commentators.

(Old) Dylan Alcott interview of Courtney Ugle on SBS @ 16:30 today

I hope EFC had a scout out at Eastern Ranges U16s last night. There was lots of promising talent but the stand out was a young indigenous girl who was dynamite around goals. She took a genuine speccy over much taller opponents and kicked something like 5 goals 4. Quick agile and that instinct for the game you just can’t teach. Destined to be a future star I think. Overall I was genuinely impressed with the skills and commitment displayed in thegame. AFLW is going to get better very quickly. These girls coming through are footballers first.

League Launch Day was today, so expect some coverage snippets soon (Chaston present).

There’s at least one practice match this weekend (Tassie vs Port).
