VFLW - miscellaneous comments and articles

Oh well damn, some good teams have been weakened.

  • Richmond AFLW taking Pie Lauren Brazzale as a top-up.
  • Fark Carlton AFLW take Hawk Maddison Torpey (who was also in the ViC vs SA game)

The rest of the VFL+VFLW fixture has been published.

We have 5 more Saturday games on top of our already completed 7, one Friday (Footscray), and one Sunday.

If you’ve subscribed to EFC calendars it should now be updated.

July 12 is the only double-header of the year (at Box Hill).

Reminder these are since-AFLW-existence games.

Jacqui Vogt coming back from a couple months all over Europe. If she debuts next week and hence qualifies for finals… well, Norf are premiership favourites regardless.

The AFL know Essendon are the basis of the VFLW: The Loose Goose and Tia DAMAGE headline their social media post and article.

Paige Scott might end up less of a homeless waif during VFLW season if Richmond actually pretends to care about their program.

And get out and come back, Monique.

DAREBIN’S existence in the VFLW is under serious threat going forward, AFL.com.au understands.

Funding issues have been cited as the main concern for the club’s VFLW program.

It is understood that Darebin is open to the idea of partnering with Richmond – who is keen to re-enter the VFLW after parting ways with Port Melbourne ahead of this year’s VFLW season – to remain in the league.

I think this is the AFL’s (who run the VFL) way of laying the groundwork to bump out Darebin, so Tassie comes in and it’s an even 12 sides.

The AFL does NOT pre-determine results.

yeah, I can’t keep a straight face saying that… fark Richmond, and thank deity the Pies lost too

GO EL!

The Radio 3DJR Award had El’s first 5 games as exactly representative of their season (3.6 votes per game).

Di Cosmo is the universal favourite, but will have plenty of competition from within her own team. Dojiok went at 2.2 goals for the first 5 games, and 2.9 for the last 9 games.

Coach votes at the end of round 5 are below, and the combination is promising!

31 Emily Eaves (Williamstown)
30 Isla Baldwin (Box Hill Hawks)
29 Maddie Di Cosmo (North Melbourne-Werribee)
29 Ange Gogos (Darebin Falcons)
26 Imogen Evans (Sandringham)
24 Abbey McDonald (Essendon)
23 Lauren Caruso (Port Melbourne)
21 El Chaston (Essendon)
20 Ava Seton (Port Melbourne)
18 Lulu Beatty (Darebin Falcons)

Rising Star Award (<24yo, never been on an AFLW list):

Sanger wins at just 18yo (no they lied) at 19-20yo across the season.

Also, "Sandringam”.

I was too slow to get the screengrab; El finished fourth, with Eaves and Gogos the dual winner.

Gogos missed round 14 with injury; Eaves played every round.

EDIT: here’s the top finishers.

Radio 3DJR had Chaston as our best (and since it was against Geelong, THE best) player in round six

Mind you, the coaches disagreed:

8 Maddison Ford (ESS)
6 Abbey McDonald (ESS)
5 Sarah Ford (ESS)
5 Hayley Peck (GEEL)
2 El Chaston (ESS)

LOL, they’ve left the mic on during the main course break and Nigel Carmody is heard clearly (LOL) saying “the audio’s a bit dodgy”.
