It’s St Fark Carlton day today (though isn’t that every day?). We are primarily looking to be ahead of Willy, not Port.
Gilcrist has the reigning VFLW CHB of the year covered for size.
(MFord would be a pretty good bet for back-to-back; has improved markedly this year.)
Just after the final siren, captured by Brendan Hitchens for the club (Freya playing elsewhere today?)
There is video of the yobbo sticking a wet finger up in the air to test the wind at three quarter time.
Happy with that description (OK, I could have written “the chook swoops in”)-- video is at

Holy hell, zeroes all the way across for Tassiopoulos (and she was not injured).
- Zero contested marks for the game?
- Abbey our most inside fifties (5), ahead of El and Ash (4)
- El and Ash 4 frees for! Though they also gave up 4 between them.
- Ash game-high 11 tackles. Also topped clearances for us alongside Thompson. But Sandy’s Tregellis and Membrey were well ahead (8 and 7).
- Ash and El were our tops for contested possessions (14 and 13). El also lead uncontested possessions across both teams (17) with McDonald (14) behind their Arianna Clarke.
- Chaston game-high for marks (6). Ryan, Scar, and Abbey next with 4.
- Scar and Chaston topped our intercept possessions (Orritt read it great today).
- Orritt and MFord our top rebounders with 4 each.
- Peake just 3 disposals but also a game-leading 3 tackles inside fifty (and 6 overall).
- Efficiency in the first half was pretty universally atrocious. Prince, Azzopardi (possibly her best game today), and as usual Jordan were our best today. Jordan absolutely swung the game in the second half when she moved onto the ball.
- Layla (29 hitouts) was tag-teamed by Hynes (26) and Downie (20).
Port lose to the Dogs by a point!
Hawks should comfortably beat Willy tomorrow – that would place Sandy 4th and us 5th.
Darebin beat Geelong next week (away) and they can make finals.
Most likely right now (though today has demonstrated things can change) will see us against Sandy again (but down there).
| Place | Team |
|---|---|
| 1 | Norf |
| 2 | Hawks |
| 3 | Magpies |
| 4 | Sandy |
| 5 | EFC |
| 6 | Darebin |
In an ideal world, Pies then get eliminated by Darebin and we get the double chance ![]()
QUARTER ONE (AKA the one where no one scores)
- I am going to be counting lassos during this rewatch. Gonna be carnage.
- Whoops, they forgot to turn the audio on for the first 20 seconds…
- Ha, that first 80 second sprint was actually pretty good disposal quality by us.
- 7:25 Gilchrist mark and kick makes it look pretty easy for her.
- 9:10 Lucy thinks about running through opponents, but instead sells candy and has an easier escape.
- 14:10 sFord runs into/shepherds the Saint ruck at a throw-in. I think both her and the umps were, somehow, confused on who was rucking…
- 15:10 Gilchrist corrals then tackles Sophie Locke brilliantly. That was otherwise looking to be the first score of the game. Play of the Day, so far.
- 18:15 Melnikas head over the ball, collect, long kick to break it open… followed by Bernardi rundown tackle.
- 19:00 we hunt in packs, and El gets the HTB. Ibrahim take the advantage for a dashing sprint towards goal, and the kick off the boot was perfect… and then the wind pushed it ten metres to the right

- Surprisingly good contest for a scoreless quarter!
- Spoiler for the eventual table(s): we “won” the lasso stuff-ups 4-0 in the first quarter. All on the southern side, of course.
QUARTER TWO
- McDonald and McIntosh just saving us over and over and over again.
- “We have a score! We have a score, ladies and gentlemen.”
- 6:20 Davidge and Ibrahim have no idea what the wind will do to that high kick…
- 9:25 I really don’t like this new thing in which Davidge misses.
- I do not object to Gilchrist holding her place next week. Is a cool customer and good kick.
- 12:10 The old lady pays attention. Great sprint by Bernard as soon as the ump called play on, and makes the big smother.
- 13:05 Lucy. Says. For. You. To. Get. Out. Of. My. Way!
- 13:40 OMG, a goal

- 15:05 there’s a Saints forward kick from just outside the near side of the centre circle that goes forward twenty metres and then turns around and ends up one metre from the boundary and five metres behind where she kicked it. Nuts.
- 16:40 a high kick lands behind where it was kicked. And then the next kick is entirely unaffected. WTF, wind.
- 19:10 SammyJ clearly thought the kick was touched (no) or not 15 metres (possibly). And then flat-out forgot to step back once that was not the conclusion. Hence the “fifty” to Sandy – it was almost 60m worth, thereby halving the range needed.
QUARTER THREE
- 5:50 That push on Orritt by Locke should arguably be a report. Her head stopped centimetres short of the fence/concrete gutter.
- 9:35 good pressure by Ibrahim and then Thompson. BALL not paid, commentary apoplectic. The ump then waits a literal five seconds, with everyone expecting a ball-up, before giving the HTB to us

- Haven’t worked out where Molan was playing at times; she was present in the forward line way beyond what would be a heavy defensive press.
- 13:00 Jordan intercept mark and perfect dab to ChristinaBernardi – who hits up the four-juggle mark by Tia. I’ll call that one her contractual obligation. Magnificent set shot from 40m with a huge sidewind – SHE DOESN’T MISS.
- 19:00 Bernardi jumps the fence and wastes an extra ten seconds. She is so Smartt.
QUARTER FOUR
- 2:00 high not paid (ump poorly placed), but Plummer goes BOOM and Bernardi is so Smartt. Goal!
- 4:45 McIntosh then Plummer making sure to shepherd for Scar. Chaston a big smother a minute later

- 9:50 Huge centre clearance by Melknikas in response to their goal.
- 13:50 Azzopardi score-saving tackle!
- 16:40 You learn very well, young padawan. Thompson slowly retrieves the ball with 3 minutes left. 37 seconds from ump pointing at the boundary line to moving off her line.
- 18:35 for the forwardline pressure and then Chaston BOOM! The crowd was roaring as they saw it coming.
