VFLW - Round 3 vs Willy @ Windy Hill, 11am Sat 30 May 2026

Dogs 0-67 approaching 3QT

We had quite a few vocal supporters who sadly had little to cheer about today.

Don’t believe there’ll be another quarter.

Suck ■■■■ Pies - the Dogs dominate the last four minutes to only go down 2-85

Still the Pies’ highest ever score (+2) and margin (+5)… both of those records wet set against Darebin in 2019.

Her other goal during her 42 consecutive games was against Darebin in 2023 (her second game with us).

That was quick! Bonus of being the first game of the weekend?

Willy had the five busiest players (including Gabby de Angelis despite her 0.4 score tally).

Why yes, she has given me bloody PTSD a lot of times.

Plummer at the bottom + MFord only just above her is a very bad indicator for us.

Elsewhere: Darebin got the first two goals, but will lose by a decent margin.

6 of Norf’s 7 goals have been by ex-EFC players (Tierney 3, Barba 2 and leading disposals for the game as well, and Brooke Sheridan 1)

Lowly (?) Hawks beats the Cats 47-27

P.S. If you can’t find your downloaded video: it’s the one that is called “Essendon vs GWS”. The deal where GWS could send up to five players down to play for Williamstown ended in 2021, you utter pillocks. And even in 2021 this was wrong.

Replay, quarter one:

  • I’m earnestly gonna try to see what Gladman managed to do inside. And whether trying to clone Melnikas is just a way to create a team with nothing past the first handball.
  • Urgh, Gilcrist just jogging alongside her opponent rather than trying to get to her, just ten seconds in.
  • Meanwhile, 15 seconds in, Gladman rebounds by kicking it straight to a Seagull. To be actually fair, she won’t be the only one.
  • Crowley still has twig arms.
  • I totally missed Zara Guss being helped off the ground after Hunt ran through her. They chose to help her the long way off rather than going to the nearer interchange bench.
  • Hales and Bateman share the first SIX points towards Radio 3DJR votes by not being crap.
  • 11:30 Not exaggerating on umps being trigger happy. Manfre got about three seconds and no movement before being called play on. The trip on her was then called HTB.
  • Nice pickup by Gladman forward, but she is near the goals so the kick goes nowhere near them.
  • She does go in again to retrieve the ball and set up Hunt’s extremely wafty snap-around-the-body.
  • Watching video spectacularly fails to explain how Willy got so much space. They just appear as the camera appears, with no one near them.
  • Zara Guss is back on the ground during this quarter despite possibly not going through their interchange bench? FFS.

Replay, quarter two

  • After a quarter of no presence, Ava joins the starting mids. So we probably have five talls (inc Manfre) as our forward line.
  • That first play is great: Hishongwa-Gibb hits to space, Chaston has to chase the bounce for a bit but then hits the running MFord perfectly. Ava slips through traffic and handballs out to Ryan streaming past and kicking long for McFarlane to mark. She went on to completely ■■■■ up the punt.
  • 1:55 LOL at Howes demonstratively claiming she didn’t blatantly infringe in the ruck.
  • So many moments like this… we have a player 35m out, and they have another 20m out. Goal.

  • Willy clear from the middle; Gilcrist has chosen to be 10m in front of their opponent, and so Straford easily goals.

  • Gladman and Hishongwa-Gibb orchestrate our next clearance.
  • The play-on calls after marks and frees continue to be crazy fast. Clearly this is Interpretation Of The Week, and we have the pleasure of playing the first game under the new-and-almost-certainly-temporary regime.
  • Gallivant currently on the far wing, and looking into the sun.
  • Gladman wins a HTB due to the Seagull dithering.
  • We rag on umpires often, but recruitment must be pathetically slim as there are a bunch of boundary umps who struggle to throw a ball in ten metres. Are they recruiting with absolutely no intent of these people ever progressing to higher levels?
  • 15:40 yeah, that’s a throw mate. Reynolds should have debuted with a goal.
  • Gladman gets a clearance and from twenty out misses the goal by five metres. One day, one day (if she doesn’t get dropped) she’s going to kick a ■■■■■■■ goal.

Replay, quarter three

  • Ibrahim is definitely deemed, at best, third wheel when it comes to wings. Ryan was good, Plummer was horrid.
  • Gladman wins the clearance from a drawn ruck contest, kicks 40m forward to a contest.
  • Jordan one minute in just barrelling into the contest to force a ball-up near our goals.
  • Seconds later, the ump imagines an in-the-back free to make that effort entirely pointless.
  • “Has a basketball background” count: 1, re: the cause of my repeat PTSD
  • And they weren’t talking about Layla, who is nearly killed by a nasty push by Russell into danger and a head whiplash into the ground. Free is paid, but ump hands the ball to Hunt  Possibly gets reported in the AFL, but would definitely be fifty for a shot five metres out for not returning the ball correctly.
  • 14:10 Hunt is playing really well, so keeps getting infringed upon. And MFORD GOALS, and the crowd does WILD.
  • All 15 players (and 1 runner) congratulate her. Makes that 16 players, after Davidge is interchanged on.
  • We had scored 17 behinds over three games and 147 minutes before that.
  • Layla got checked on the ground, cleared, and is rucking at the re-start. She doesn’t fly, and then falls over. Seems fine in subsequent play, though.
  • Molan 30 metre kick-out to Hales down the spine is sooooooooooooo the kick-out plan. And on a day where we didn’t hit many targets, this plan actually worked.

Replay, quarter four

  • Gilcrist has been murdered by some many different opponents.
  • 4:10 LOL at Crowley being put on her bum by Plummer.
  • 6:40 Spring-Brown conning me into thinking it was Davidge for a moment with that mark
  • 10:10 this is our best play of the day by a long way. Willy kick to 30m from their goal. Azzopardi, Gilcrist, Jordan, Plummer, Manfre by hand and under pressure. Handball to Hales is dropped, but a nice second burst by Manfre and she kicks into the middle to Spring-Brown. Reynolds has been on the other back flank and streams down the guts for the recevie. The whole grandstand was yelling at Spring-Brown to go outside to her. Takes the ball at the centreline, really deliberates, and then accurately passes to a McFarlane diving mark. Reynolds keeps running and gets the handball back. Again composed, runs her distance and then chips to the face of goal. Davidge plays it safe by marking it (it was going to go through). SHE DOESN’T MISS.
  • At the next centre contest, Plummer has gone in and the wings are Jordan and Reynolds.
  • Tries to run between the two players, is deemed not to have had opportunity. Ump pls.

  • Both that field ump and this boundary ump, and the field ump that thought this throw-in being the best part of 10 metres sideways was OK, just need to give up.

Radio 3DJR votes:

6 - Chaston (but hopefully our least authoritative BOG this year)
5 - Hunt (not her fault opportunities were scarce)
4 - Molan
3 - Hales (mostly for the first quarter)
2 - Ryan
