Thanks for the coverage DJR.

Live ladder: we will drop to 5th or 6th after Hawks/Norf and Port/Willy tomorrow.

We play the two winless teams with percentages in the thirties the next two weeks, so should be pushing for a percentage up with those other finalist candidates from that.

Abbey McDonald kicked her first goal for us today.

Later, she kicked her second goal for us.

She had some short stints as a forward, but was mostly on the ball.

Spoiler: she was easily our BOG.

P.S. Small sample, but we are running with our youngest teams ever this year. Average age on game days has been 21.23yo, just under 2023’s average age of 21.32.

Thanks for post match analysis

Only just started

Radio 3DJR never got into their groove today, after heading the wrong way on Mt Macedon earlier on and therefore entering Windy Hill just 30 seconds before the start of the game, unchanged and therefore ultimately cold.

  • Albrecht is sooo important. Topped score involvements and tackles.
  • Tia was roaming widely today, and had twice as many marks as the next Bomber. Crucial link between the backline escape and the forward entry.
  • Sarah Ford had her best game this year, with 19 disposals and a leading five clearances.
  • Mifsud topped intercept possessions and rebound fifties, and they were AGGRESSIVE moves; shrugging tackles and selling candy to weave through traffic. She doesn’t play the same deep defense role as Lily, though.
  • Porter is right now competing for the least-skilled EFC VFLW player ever (till now known as the Gabby Gold Award). Struggling so badly to pick up the ball or hit a target. I don’t know how she’s declined so much.

“Debby”

Her relative lack of stats don’t reflect her buzzing around.

Hmmm. Well, one more option incoming. We’ve got a few out injured.

There’s an alternate view of this from the club on Instagram.

After an ~8 hour power outage:

That’s a long hike…

We are actually in a good position, with the three teams directly above us the other form teams of the league (and 2 of our 4 matches to date).

Footscray should sharply diminish when they lose their AFLW players (they lost to Geelong at home in a practice match). They face North and the Hawks in the next two rounds.

Sandy have so far played the four bottom teams. Whether they make finals may depend on the next three weeks, as they face others seeking to replace them (Willy, Port, Pies). They don’t want to rely on their final month which includes Box Hill, us, and Werribee.

QUARTER ONE

  • Get this out of the way early – #54 Sophia McCarthy was largely unstoppable: 18 disposals and 6 marks for the key forward. Early on, #59 Sophie Damon was killing it at full-back too.
  • 0:40 Albrecht just going hard… and when she fumbles the first pick-up, she doesn’t panic.
  • Prince and Master had a decent battle all day. Neither goes missing after the ruck contest is done.
  • 5:35 MFord intercept; Plummer mis-kicks perfectly for Davidge to run onto it and pop it over to Jordan for the composed snap goal. Rather than run off the field after that, Ava goes to the centre “bounce”.
  • 8:45 @DavidgeBlindTurn
  • 10:20 if you take the “kick-out” and run to 43m from goal without a second bounce, you’ve gone too far. Marnie’s brain had a nap there.
  • 12:25 ball went up 8 metres, and across 7 metres. Apparently that adds up to 15, and so the mark is paid.
  • 15:35 Jordan is not given enough respect. AbbeyMcDonald nice dab kick to her not-sufficiently-marked-up, and then another perfectly-weighted pass to the leading Jayda.
  • 17:20 watch Plummer start well behind the FCFCer, and sprint to get body pressure on and force a lasso free for us.
  • Wait, when was time stopped? FCFC goal at 20:30.

QUARTER TWO

  • 2:00 Scar pinged for (safe) slinging tackle, Scar don’t care.
  • A couple times early this quarter we see Abbey just drop the nitro and burn out of trouble.
  • 3:00 I like a broadcast with better crowd audio. A bunch of yobbos go BALL for the Albecht rundown tackle. Luckily for them, it fell onto a foot.
  • Then an Ava tackle, then Plummer just throwing her body into McCarthy and doubling up with a ground-and-pound tackle. Love it.
  • 4:30 The yobbos finally get their BALL rewarded. Clueless FCer had no idea it was coming from Bernardi, who was clearly watching the ump and entered the no-longer protected zone at pace from behind.

  • Perfect pass to Ava lead, runs hard towards goal and space and Ava chips it to her in range. Clunky kick just gets over the pack for the goal.
  • 8:10 Turnover due to Harrison pressure, and three perfect kicks tp leading marks: Robinson to Tia to Abbey to Bernardi.
  • Bernardi does the slide-to-the-side run-in that allows her to kick basically at the level of the mark, as per her set shot last week. Clearly a deliberate ploy.
  • 9:30 Molan had a few botches in this game, but geez this intercept and slick handball off was nice. And that leads to Abbey’s first EFC goal. Pure class.
  • Powerhouse Hobbs in for her first centre attendance. A quiet game for her, mostly forward.
  • 11:55 for the ball saying FARK YOU to Fark Carlton. What a magnificent bounce that was to not go through for a goal… or any score, actually.
  • 14:40 Madison “sticky fingers” Ibrahim plucks the ball from the sky.
  • Nice drive-through off-the-ball bump by 57 Evie Lee on Mifsud.
  • Cherie continues to coach from the bench.
  • 16:05 Melnika almost rips the jumper off the FCFCer… for a moment it was fully pulled over the head.
  • 16:30 Abbey on the aggro pills: “I’m going to the ball, and if you get in my way it’s your fault!"
  • 17:50 the umps were really not too keen on paying HTB… to be fair, it was pretty consistently stingy.
  • 18:35 nice aggression from Abbey and Richo to get Albrecht the chance. She launches from outside fifty rather than do a dab to the leading Hobbs.
  • 19:20 StickyFingers at it again, and she launches past her opponent to kick long and… hit the inside of the padding on the goal post. Damn it.

QUARTER THREE

  • From the middle Tia launches it over the pack, and Abbey (who started in the middle) is reading it best, taking on the tackle, and goaling.
  • 1:55 Albrecht just runs past three FCFCers like they’re standing still. Gets to the ball first, pushes it forward, gets it again, gets kicked in the head. The FCFCer Emma Horne had already conceded she did it (not maliciously) but the ump says NO.
  • But Albrecht is a tough little one, squirts the handball out, and Plummer lobs a kick to the face of goal from 49m out. It wobbles a bit at the end, 49 Madeline Hendrie mis-reads that flight, and Jayda goals.
  • 3:35 McCarthy leads her usual opponent MFord to the ball, marks, and goals.
  • 9:20 you only get the last second of it, but this was when Ibrahim sprinted 40m from the interchange to get an effective spoil in.
  • 9:30 I like a boundary umpire who is paying attention.
  • A couple really nice handballs by MFord to set up rebounds.
  • 12:40 The yobbos were not happy with Tia taking her time to turn around and see the options.
  • 13:15 Laziest insufficient intent ever by Molan. Don’t act surprised
  • 13:40 Another FCFCer who can’t get a touch (Roxy Maslin) getting physical. Mild-mannered sFord gives it back, and is then shoved into the umpire by Octavia “one career disposal for us, and didn’t get drafted” di Donato. Possibly a fine there.
  • Followed by the almost-perfect play of Chaston bursting from the pack and Ava front-and-centring Jayda on the run. Point only. I guess that bounce was less cruel than the one for FCFC the previous quarter
  • 15:45 gross holding of Bernardi after she has disposed. Ump pls.
  • After the siren, di Donato tries to create a brawl. What a leader!

QUARTER FOUR

  • 1:25 Mifsud and Albrecht not gonna die wondering.
  • Commentary then immediately say the Blues are the ones that won’t “die wondering”. If that is a way of saying the Blues are playing as well as they possibly can… OK, I’ll allow it, because we are a long way from our best in this game, and still spanked them!
  • 3:00 Abbey wants it more than anyone, to Azzopardi outside, to Chaston, and a lovely over-the-top handball allows Orritt to run thorough without pausing and slot it from forty out!
  • 4:45 impressive mark by McCarthy.
  • Albrecht has nowhere near the raw skill of Keck, but she gets results.
  • That would have been an amazing blind turn and goal by big Lucy Burke if she hadn’t then kicked entirely across the face.
  • 7:40 Ava don’t care how tall her opponents are. Great burst through the stoppage to collect and kick.
  • Molan having a rough couple minutes.
  • Big Bad Bustling Bourke gets it right the next time.
  • 10:05 Abbey knocking people over, drawing opponents and tackles to her, popping it perfectly over the top.
  • 10:25 Albrecht won’t get a stat there, but does get a :white_check_mark: from me.
  • 11:30 Froggy makes up with a contested intercept mark, earning fifty metres, and getting it forward where snap-around-the-body #3 for Jordan is her second goal.
  • sFord took quite a few sacrificial hits in the middle of packs.
  • 15:25 Mifsud just taking them all on to get out of the defensive fifty… and then following up for the 1-2. Fantastic!
  • 16:05 Well done Harrison, just scrapping away to stop them scoring from a decent entry. Should have got two frees for being held, too.
  • Plummer’s aggression all day was great.
  • LOL at how slow Azzopardi retrieves the ball from the on-the-full. She knows how to run down the clock.
