QUARTER ONE
- “As good as we’ve seen all day!” … um, yeah, we’re only four minutes in. But it was pretty damn good.
- 6:25 Four weeks in a row we’ve had a fifty from a player on the mark twitching as the ump whistles
“hurry up”? - 7:15 impressive slipperiness by Albrecht before centring to Plummer for the goal.
- 9:55 LOL at Harrison handballing into the back of Chaston… and El still managing to take control of it.
- All of Casey’s three behinds in this first quarter could easily have been goals. Phew.
- This is the first time this year Jayda has made a centre attendance. Jatczak isn’t the brutal type that wears you down, but she was doing well versus Prince before this change happened.
- 16:40 We better not lose Abbey AND Melnikas to concussion for headbuting each other (relax; both were training tonight).
- 17:15 good ol’ sticky fingers controls the ball under pressure.
- 17:35 example of Azzopardi’s lack of pace… and the Casey player having a mental breakdown before falling on her butt in sheer terror. Then Azzopardi cleans up nicely, twice.
- Jayda go CLUNK versus two Demons.
- 18:40 Downie works out she’s left her opponent alone just a bit late.
- 6-27, ruh-roh.
- Whistle 49 metres out 0.1 seconds before the siren; luckily falls a few metres short. Azzopardi was quick to get everyone back on the goal line.
QUARTER TWO
- 2:20 yeah, I got excited when Plummer got it 90 metres from goal and took off. This wind was made for her. A bounce and a kick to the square later, and DAMAGE taps it through.
- Argh, defending from behind (contrary to the wind) concedes two marks and now Ella Morris has kicked three goals in 24 minutes. Felt like a momentum killer, but from here onwards they score just one goal.
- 4:50 Mifsud might have been lucky to get that free after fumbling, but that pass to the leading RICHO was
- 6:05 shithouse throw-out in the middle.
- Harrison Ford on the wings. How did I not use that line on the day?!?
- 7:40 Plummer outwills two Demons to win the ball on the wing.
- Credible save by Ella Morris. The yobbo in the background is anxious and/or cold.
- 9:40 I bet Jayda was REALLY annoyed at being caught by ex-Bomber Teagan Williams. Wants her back with us!
- 9:50 Melnikas taking the hit then a nice ball-stripping tackle
- 10:45 If that stupid ball had bounced back up again you would have witnessed the firepower of this fully armed and operational SammyJ. Covers ground QUICK for a tall.

- 14:15 the yobbo is absolutely disgusted that the ball didn’t get out-on-the-full.
- 15:25 “I think Richardson enjoys the physicality of the game”… I’ll pay that.
- 15:35 The yobbo is manifestly demonstrative about the blantant deliberate-out-of-bounds by Jatczak. Ump says NO.
- 16:45 OK, I’ve done the video review. Not enough evidence to over-ride my call that Jordan was robbed of a goal.
- 17:50 Abbey does NOT get reported for this sling-ish tackle… or even get a free against!. Thank fark for that; I want her to destroy Geelong next week.

- 19:30 LOLz at Casey reversing the free back to us. You idiot! That second was one-third of Mifsud’s 3 frees for and 3 frees against.
QUARTER THREE
- Fark youse guys; another centre clearance chopped out of the video. Ruining my stats!
- Actually, you then see the almost-certain mid four come into shot. Yay!
- 1:25 Lucy needs to be told that TIA DOESN’T MISS. Keep running and/or give it to her! After the Thompson wayward kick, Tia doesn’t miss with her tackle, either.
- 3:10 TIA MARKS. TIA DOESN’T MISS.
- Here comes the rain, and we’ll get one point for each team over the final 16 minutes of this third quarter.
- 6:40 Albrecht zip and nice soccer kick on display.
- As the game slows down, little skinny Albrecht becomes more prominent inside. Takes down Demon ruck Burn for the HTB free at 10:15.
- Yes, Kirkwood is a local gun, but geez these guys want Abbey strung up.
- 13:55 All she gained was 20 metres of scrapping here, but Chaston is good this quarter.
- The commentary is appreciating Layla battling out of her height range in the ruck; but this was probably her worst game. Not BAD, but not good to very good like all the others.
- Porter “played her 50th game a couple of weeks ago”? Argh, I have her on 35 right now. Did she have a long gap out of the game and no one noticed her reach 50? This is confusing because normally Brendan Rhodes would be the best source for this kind of thing, AND he is on this call, and it WASN’T mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Will have to check with him! She’s having an alright game, too.
- SammyJ is having an “almost” game.
- 19:25 a seven-metre kick is paid as a mark to Jatczak in easy range off goal. Ump pls.
- Lauren went on to completely fark up the kick.
QUARTER FOUR
- In a responsive coaching move, Albrecht gets her first centre attendance for the year. Then she scoots off forward.
- 0:35 Chaston really has to stop looking at the ump. Yes, that was a tackling blow to their neck, but you have to keep playing.
- LOL me. The nearest ump said NO, and then got over-ruled from elsewhere. Chaston only looked at the wrong ump
- 1:30 Thompson roves, hooks around her body… out of bounds. She’s no SammyJ when it comes to that type of kick. The deputy yobbo, who kept going on about how we were running out of time, did a good job in returning the ball promptly.
- Commentary then goes on about us never losing at Casey Fields: this was something I had to tell the otherwise optimistic deputy yobbo after he went with the ol’ classic “we never win here”.
- 3:00 “The reality is Essendon is going to need to kick two goals to win the game.”… nope, we will need three!
- 4:00 RICHO RICHO GIRL! Up against Jatczak in the ruck, nudges her out, keeps the ball free of the tacklers, perfect handball to Albrecht for the GOAL!
- Tia gets trampled in the celebrations.
- Scary few minutes of Casey pushing forwards.
- Abbey is doing big kicks for us too.
- 7:05 I reckon that was some guessing by the ump. Not clear from my angle that Thompson was the one in front. But the mark is paid… and she “improves” from out-of-bounds to a behind.
- 9:00 Great repeat effort, Plummer.
- 10:25 Geez, that could have been in-the-back versus us instead of HTB. But Harrison make the most of it with a well-weighted pass to the leading Thompson… who kicks another behind.
- SCORES ARE LEVEL.
- Richo is doing a good job in her ruck contests.
- 14:10 That was there. Thompson looks to run through the stoppage, Casey panic and tackle her without it.
- GOAL!
- Defenders MFord, Robinson, and Azzopardi in to celebrate.
- The last centre throw-up is at 15:40 after Layla runs off the bench and the ump kindly waits for her.

- FFS: Brendan Rhodes says this is Melnikas’ 77th game. I had it as 76 per some commentary (hopefully not by him!) from round 4 of last year.

- 17:00 DECAPITATION! Mifsud smashed in the face, head cranks back ninety degrees.
- Melnikas takes the free, has burnt 45 seconds by the time she kicks sideways to Porter.
- Melnikas another tackle stoppage with 30 seconds left.
- Bloody good win. And Downie and Harrison come from the bench to run past everyone else and celebrate with Thompson… thanks Wuetschner!
