Record Store Day is offering up one very tasty release if you’re a PiL fan…

Previously unreleased version of Public Image Limited’s debut album that was re-recorded and remixed for release (with alternate artwork from original release) in 1979 via Warners in the US and Canada, but ultimately shelved. This is the holy grail for fans of John Lydon’s post-Sex Pistols band. A stunning debut and landmark release for the post-punk movement of the late ‘70s.

Just look at this gorgeous thing…

And I don’t know who to thank for the production, but oh my god…
It sounds like you’re in the room with them.

Jack Douglas I think (though uncredited)… did a lot a big stuff from 70’s rockers like Cheap Trick and Aerosmith.

Think his production was the subject of a lawsuit b/w him and Yoko.

I made that comment to a friend at a live gig one night … and then realised what I’d done.

My listening pleasure today…

Edit: apparently Ph.D’s I Won’t Let You Down is shy.

Now & Zen is my fave Plant work post Zed Leppelin. It is his most even album, prior to that his albums l felt were a bit hit and miss.

Have you listened to his solo albums post Now & Zen?

They’re well worth listening to if you haven’t already done so.

Great band, sadly cruelled before they really got going thanks to ‘lifestyle’ issues. Keen to hear from anyone who may have seen them when they toured here in ‘82z

I saw them when they toured in 1982.

They played at The Palais down in St Kilda.

It was at the end of a very long world tour and they played like that…they came across as disinterested and just fulfilling their contractual requirements.

One of the more disappointing concerts I’ve seen over the years.

But their first two albums are wonderful pieces of music and I still regularly listen to them.

I debated about going to that very gig. From just finishing a bio, which spoke extensively about the band’s state of mind/health I’m not surprised by your review. But when I saw the album for sale today at a local market I remembered what a solid gold classic single Talk of the Town was/is and grabbed it. Shame about what happened to that band on a number of levels.

Looking at 2 items but think it’ll just go for the price of what’s on Discogs or elsewhere.

Finally got around to getting this superb album on vinyl.
