Excellent Christmas haul. Thanks Santa. You have exceptional taste…
The classic 1975 Strata East label release Saturday Night Special by The Lyman Woodard Organization and a beautiful double set of 13th Floor Elevators 1967 classic Easter Everywhere with a stereo and mono version. The mono is the star here. Very muscular.
has anyone got rhcp’s californication? it was one of my fav albums as a younger lad despite being overproduced to sht, and as such i suspect it would sound garbage on a turntable, so i’ve resisted getting it
The original vinyl and CD were mastered hot as buggery - they are regularly held up as one of the main victims of the loudness wars (no dynamic range at all, lots of digital distortion etc. etc.)
I believe there have been subsequent re-pressings (e.g. 2012 vinyl remaster) that sound far, far better.
I have a 2019 release and it is fine, but my ability to discriminate good music in the DJ thread was frequently questioned given my love of country music.
