Ooooh. Theres nothing more beautiful in the hifi world than glowing tubes…equalled only by the hipnotic dance of VU meters.
How about a massive graphic equaliser with presettings that move automatically?
My first true “ghetto blaster” (a Sony double tape-deck thingy) had a display on it called a “spectrum analyser”… about a half-dozen different EQ frequencies each with a bank of about 8 glowing lights. Mesmerising to look at, but had absolutely f’all to do with f’all…
I personally dont think they have the class and beauty VUs and tubes have, but as Sly Stone said “Different strokes for different folks”
How do you connect that to a Mac Mini?
Edit : Doesn’t matter 3.5mm headphone to RCA of course
If you were doing any serious music listening out of a computer, you’d go…
Mac Mini to DAC (pictured on the left) via USB
then
DAC to Headphone Amp with RCA’s
Breaking the new cart in with some Jimi…naturally.
The Nagaoka MP-200 has not disappointed. Being somewhat blown away by it. I know Hendix’s Axis:Bold as Love album inside out and back to front. Im hearing/noticing things ive never heard before. Amazing detail. So balanced. Perfect bass, treble and mids.
Im a very happy Doggatron.
Woohoo!!!
The sound is really good, but there’s so much bass.
I need to bring it out from the wall a bit.
Soooo happy.
Telefunken?
Heh.
Philips.
RF670 if that helps.
I love the panel on the right of the turntable that has all the old metro AM stations on it.
LO, KZ, AW, UZ, AK etc.

Philips RF670 Novasonic Stereogram
A solid-state, BC four-speed stereogram. Housed in a genuine timber cabinet, hand-finished in maple, teak and Danish walnut.
Features: two 8" twin-cone high efficiency speakers. Silicon transistors. Four-speed automatic record changer and high performance radio with all-stations dial. Full frequency Novasonic sound. Sockets for stereo tape recorder playback and record. Vertical record storage.
Nice @wimmera1!
My old man has an old phonogram with a mono speaker in it. What’s interesting about it is that the turntable has four speeds - 33 and 45 of course, as well as 78 and 16 rpm. He has some old orchestral records (not sure if they’re vinyl or something else… they’re incredibly heavy) which play at 16 rpm and it’s the only thing he can play them on.
I know it’s a long way from perfect.
But it’s what I want.
Thats all that matters, Wim.
I got this old Telefunken in the garage. Turntable is stuffed. But the radio still works. AM/FM. Must be one of the first FM radios I think. The tubes in it still work. I just wish I had the brains/motivation to restore it.
Arrived today from Germany. 1 month from order is pretty good. Will see how it sounds now. Fitted the VM540ML cartridge last week
… aaand the disc inside is Kurt Demmler live, Die Lieder des Kleinen Prinzen.
Aptly, I have reverted to Some Jerks, which also recently arrived, reliably from Rocking Horse (although this is the first issue I’ve had with discogs)
As a mate said to me, some old bloke in Heidelberg is prolly now listening to the folk sounds of Sammy Hagar
Oh no!
