#14 Jordan Ridley -- ADDITIONAL 3 YEARS (till 2029)

So the main knock on this guy is intensity & contested ball, yeah?

No, the main knock is that fix footy had him ranked around 60. They must know what they’re talking about, surely… maybe

If he can pull off marks the the one on the wing in the highlights reel we can call him: ‘Air’.

I reckon Dodoros comments indicate why they picked Ridley. It’s for his upside. They think he has the most upside of anyone in the draft. Which isn’t bad for a bloke who is serviceable at just about everything.

Will all be about if he can put on some size… and if not, can he play like Fletch.

Air of Slythessendon

The kids a bottom age player yeah?

Would have been interesting to see where he would have gone in next years draft.

Agree with Saladin on this one.

This reminded me a lot of the Carlisle selection a few years back.
Same reaction around the forum, a pick around the same mark, a player which wasn’t really talked about, slight frame, will take 2-3 years before playing AFL, felt like we reached and could have got him at next pick.

Hopefully he’ll be as good.

To get us a top 5 pick to use on real talent like parish?!
Yeah hopefully.

Carlisle was always in the frame for a mid-20s pick. We may have thought we had reasonable tall depth but it wasnt a very surprising pick IIRC

If anything he fell - was talked about around picks 12-15 IIRC

Riddle was rated in the 20s also (Cal and Emma’s phanton draft). Plus according to that SEN dude, Brisbane wanted Riddle with their second round pick.

How dare you compliment a former player!

Actually he had a good game against the Allies. I can see why our recruiters picked him.

BOTTOM-AGED key forward prospect Sam Hayes has booted three goals to steer Vic Metro to a 14-point victory over the Allies in Friday’s NAB AFL Under-18 Championships at Etihad Stadium.

Hayes, a potential top-five selection in next year’s draft, booted three goals from 13 disposals to ensure Vic Metro remains in the box seat to secure its 16th Division One Under-18 title.

Metro now just needs to beat Western Australia at Simonds Stadium next Wednesday in its final game of the carnival to take home the silverware.

Hayes, who stands at 200cm and can move exceptionally well for a big man, was an important target for Metro in its 10.14 (60) to 8.12 (74) win.

However, the work of Corey Lyons, younger brother of Adelaide’s Jarryd, was equally impressive as he racked up 20 disposals and a goal.

Dylan Clarke, the younger brother of North Melbourne’s Ryan, continued his stellar form in the Championships with another 26 touches and five clearances.

The result looked to be almost elementary as Metro kicked five goals to nil in the first term. But the Allies hit back with four goals to nil of their own in the second quarter to get back in touch.

The Allies, coached by Tadgh Kennelly, hit the lead halfway through the third term as Jack Bowes (20 disposals and seven inside 50s) and Harry Perryman (18) started to exert their influence.

The match was in the balance even into the final term before Callum Brown, the son of Collingwood’s Gavin, kicked a clever snap out of a pack to drag Metro over the line with only a few minutes left in the contest.

Andrew McGrath, whose draft stocks are rising considerably, had an excellent second half to finish with 24 disposals and six clearances as he spent time in the midfield.

Jordan Ridley, who took a spectacular pack mark in the second quarter, also impressed with 18 possessions and seven marks for Metro.
Greater Western Sydney academy member Charlie Spargo was lively up forward, while Jacob Allison also worked hard for the Allies with 14 touches and a goal.

VIC METRO 5.1 5.6 6.9 10.14 (74)
ALLIES 0.5 4.7 6.10 8.12 (60)

GOALS
Vic Metro: Hayes 3, Kerr 2, Venables, Lyons, Higgins, Daicos, Brown
Allies: Sproule 2, Brown, Hampton, Allison, Rolls, Perryman, Marshall

BEST
Vic Metro: Clarke, McGrath, Lyons, Hayes, Ridley, Bunker
Allies: Perryman, Bowes, Mutch, Scheer, Allison, Spargo

Clarke, McGrath, Ridley & Mutch all in the bests.

It was always a bit of a concern for me when all the top prospects seemed to be part of VIC Country who were supposed to be awesome, but never really got going.

Instead we’ve wandered over and picked up three VIC Metro lads, who while they had to scrap and scrag some of their wins, still won the tournament. There is something in that.

Certainly creating a core group of mates from this draft.

Interesting Dodoro rates him as a tall mid in the future. I cant see it at the moment, thinking half back flanker, but he is definitely versatile, has kicked a bag as a under ager to at TAC level. Will be interesting where he is first tried at VFL next year, and hope he puts on some size this preseason.

Went a bit early on him but he may end up being a good player.

By what Dodoro was saying he has been recruited to play forward and then move into the midfield. Personally rate him in defense more but the fact the Dodoro didn’t bring up that he plays defense is a bit wierd
