Welcome to Essendon - Caz & Cuz

Wim and Rhino D thanks for your posts.

The passion many are showing here used to be directed at other Teams and not at each other.

When you have such a vacuum, the current mess exists and will continue, as the whole Hird "resignation " has so many holes in the story. The Board owes it to Members to show openness and Transperency, and tell us exactly what occurred, so move can move on.

This ■■■■■■ up crap better be over soon so we never have to see threads like these. Whatever you believe it’s ■■■■■■ either way.

Okay- how about we put aside the whole Hird “resignation” for a moment and appeal to James for transparency about how it all went belly up. ■■■■ the non disparagement clauses- let’s hear it. We deserve it and he owes it to tell us what exactly occurred in 2011/2012 and August 2013.

Yeah I can think of nothing better than public ■■■■ fight between Hird and the board.

Ok- run along.
Sorry Reboot, I respect the hell out of your posting but you clearly haven't worked in HR.

I have been involved (unfortunately) in the ‘downsizing’ or around 1000 positions over my career and about 900 of them will be listed as ‘resignations’… when in reality about 20 were.

You sit an employee down (after not supporting them in their role for about 6 months) and tell them that they can ‘resign’, get a pay out and receive a good reference OR they can be fired, get no reference and get less payout. 99.9999999% of the time… they take the ‘resignation’ option.

So I’m sorry but it is not that I am calling anyone at the club liars (although they all have been lying to us for 3+ years now) BUT I know how these things work.

Step A: Support for Hird removed (evidence includes no BF last year, push for Thompson to stay, Little offering inducements to step down)
Step B: Make role tougher (evidence includes putting 3 ‘over managers’ above him to stifle all productivity, remove public support)
Step C: Plant seeds of doubt (evidence includes notable high profile EFC people ‘leaking’ about the lack of clean air with Hird around)
Step D: Move in for the Kill (wait for Hird to talk to you about what is best for the club, then politely tell him that you do not believe he is the best man for the job, that the club will never have clear air whilst he is there and that it would be best he leaves)
Step E: Make it look pretty (Allow Hird to tender his ‘resignation’ and spin the shit out it)

So I absolutely believe that Hird tendered his resignation, I have no doubt that it was him at the press conference speaking honestly from the heart and I have no doubt that he tried to make the best of a bad situation.

That does not mean that he wasn’t forced out of his position over the last 2 years through lies, manipulation and back room deals with the AFL, media and others.

Sacked, resigned, retrenched… whatever… Hird is gone because Little wanted him gone, the AFL wanted him gone and the AFL Media wanted him gone. Hird did not suddenly wake up one day and say “I do not want to coach the EFC anymore”

To add to this post, I cannot shake the feeling that the AFL told the club that if Hird was gone, they’d grease the wheels to make sure the Essendon “brand” (fark I hate the term) was reborn.

The AFL would do this via their accredited communication specialists, favourable media leaks, big time promotion of the new Sheedy blockbuster Farmers game, which would include co-operation with another club of course, helpful assistance with the appointment of a new coach, and a warm welcome back to the arms of the AFL family.

We’ll no longer be the pariahs of the game, we’ll be the prodigal sons.

Except it hasn’t happened has it? All this Clear Air® has not stopped the maggots stitching us up in the Hird-free games, nor has it stopped AFL-backed penalties like what Dempsey got, which was absurd compared to how they treated a worse incident from Hodge.

Dempsey was lucky not to get six.

This ■■■■■■ up crap better be over soon so we never have to see threads like these. Whatever you believe it's ■■■■■■ either way.

Agree

All to come in 2016. Fresh Clean Air.
This place amazes me. Hird tells you how it was. He's spinning it for the sake of the club. The CEO tells you the same as Hird. He's spinning it too. The chairman tells you the same thing. He to is spinning it. The entire board tells you the same thing. They are spinning it as well. A board member actually bothers to come here, but he tells you the same thing, so he's spinning it too. Maybe it's about time some people had a look at the possibility that it is them doing the spinning, not Hird and the club. Seems many have a predetermined position that regardless of anything they are told, will not change. Seems to be lots of anger justification happening. Lot's of classic Caro.

It’s the saga’s fault.
Seriously.
We have been trained into reading between lines, not believing what is being said to us, searching for hidden agendas and defending Hird to the hilt because the club wouldn’t do it for as long as we wanted to.

The only way people will change their minds on what happened is if Hird himself talks.
Even then, his words won’t be believed assuming he’s been muzzled or something else.

That is true.

What I don’t get though is people not taking on board the actions.
I’m a big believe of actions speak louder than words, so i’m not one personally to take the boards side just cos. they have alot of questions that need answering into the conduct on multiple fronts.

But this is where the actions of the Man himself should be taken on face value for the time being, that of Hird that is.

In recent history at this club, there have been 3 removals of fav sons of the club as you’d say in Sheedy, Thompson and Hird.

at the time of their removal and even a couple of years afterwards (granted it’s what 8 odd years since sheedy left) can people not see the difference between how Sheedy and thompson reacted when they perceived themselves to be slighted by the club, compared to Hird himself ?

I sure as hell don’t remember Sheedy saying he’s stepping down for the good of the club to go forward. I sure as hell don’t remember him making videos (granted it was a different time) about continuing to support the club even if you don’t like this decision.
I also don’t recall thompson doing it either, infact people have turned on him this year cos of his perceived bitterness towards the club.

So my question to all those who doubt it played out the way they all say, what ACTIONS behind the words as you say, from hird, suggest that what he is saying is not the truth ?

Look at the backlash by some around here and how betrayed they feel, and angry and hurt and everything else and they can’t keep it contained.
If people who aren’t hird have had to live through what he has are like they are at present, how the ■■■■ does anyone expect HIrd to be anything less, if he was indeed feeling bitter or betrayed by the club ?

Surely he’d be riorting for change like so many in his name are proclaiming wouldn’t he ? He wouldn’t be trying to put the club and players first like so many supporters aren’t doing.
He’d be reacting the exact same way as people have been on here that didn’t like the decision.

If we're comparing historical sackings, why stop at Bomber and Sheeds? Knights was sacked and a majority believe Hird was sacked. Both had a year to run on their contract, one turned up to his press conference the other didn't even get a press conference. Why not continue around the rest of the league? How many sacked coaches end up at their own press conference? A high majority don't. Let's use more historical info though. The last time Hird was apparently sacked, he supposedly fought it off and went to his lawyers for it. Why would the actions be so different in this instance?

In the end, whether he was truly sacked or he resigned, he was content with the story that is out there and I’m sure he’s moving on with his life and he’d be cheering on Essendon yesterday as he has done so in the past.

I’m all for holding the board to account for what’s happened from 2012 onwards. I don’t think these two particular board members have as much to answer for as others on that board do and I don’t expect them to divulge sensitive information either. Especially in writing on a forum that has their username and faces as avatars, can easily find it’s way into the media and up against a high majority of faceless people hiding behind a user name and avatar shouting for blood.

The only way to get rid of some of the board members is to either vote them off when their time comes or get behind a ticket to overthrow the board. There hasn’t been a ticket that has put together a good enough sales pitch that they can run the club and deal with the various pressures (from both the AFL and members) adequately.

@Rhino-D , that is an EXCEPTIONAL post. Seriously mate, fantastic read.

I really hope you’ll be attending the members forum to point that out to Little and co. (obviously in ‘nicer’ words  )

I wasn’t sure I actually wanted to put that much aggression out online so I sat on that post for a few days.

After watching the conversation unfold though, I felt like there were some posters afraid to go against the ‘in-crowd’ and say what they were feeling so I toned down the intial draft (about 4 times) and then put it out there.

I’m glad I did because it seems there were at least a couple of people with similar thoughts, and if my post helped anyone articulate their own feelings to some extent then it was worth it.

I’ll be at the members forum but I’m not going there to give anyone a dressing down.

What I accept is that the club/board will never be able to provide satisfactory answers to any of the questions I would pose to them.

So by going in hot, I would just be setting them up to fail, and I would only be inviting myself to be angrier than I already am.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love nothing more than to light them up especially in public, but outside of making me feel better for a few minutes, I know it would not achieve anything.

My opinion on what they have done and how they have done it will never change. I will take that to the grave.

Edit:

Then again, I may just lose my ■■■■.

Should be fun.

Well, if you sat on a post for a few days, I’m sure you’re pretty well stretched by now, and I would not be surprised if you did have a little trouble with continence.

I left it out there and you crushed it.

I can only smile and nod knowingly.

Caz n Cuz, great to see the club making a conscious effort to give back to the fans, whether it be behind the scenes videos or showing up on the members doorsteps it is very much appreciated…it’s been a great few weeks and it genuinely feels like we are finally back.

Well done.

Appreciate the kind words thanks McQuade, I’ll pass them along.
