He fits in already
heās going to kill it in brown and gold in 18 months time
There are still a few of us who are not blowing with the breeze and are still unmoved in our antipathy!!
Iām putting @ivan down as part of this club
He was āWorst VC in the league / in Essendon historyā to many Essendon fans this year.
He got a massive bump in perception from the close loss to St Kilda, and then it just took off after Merrettās treachery.
Thatās how heroes are made
iām not really looking forward to the mcgrath era.
I wouldnāt think that you would be.
iām still convinced this merrett meeting mitchell is a pando psyop
Thatās not just a dump kick turnover, thatās a real CAPTAINāS dump kick turnover ![]()

Heās far from a great footballer. But I could see a world in which he could be our Nick Maxwell, not particularly talented but a great leader.
For McGrath to make that happen though heās going to have to not squib opportunities to tackle when heās vulnerable and will have to improve his defensive running a lot.
I would have taken clug a million times over McGrath with that pick 1 though
Ok Iāll put you down as more lid off than me then!
Maxwell was limited but he was courageous and a fierce tackler and IMO this was half of which made him a strong leader. The other half was his game knowledge which allowed him to direct teammates and set up the ground accordingly.
Iām not sure how good McGrath is at the second thing. Itās hard to say.
But I donāt think the first thing is something that you can just ātweakā at 27-28 years of age. He is what he is on that front most likely.
Overall, IMO heās an adequate or āhandyā footballer and a thorough professional in his preparation and his training standards and approach. Thatās about all I can point to.
I think your assessment is probably correct and Iām adding fair amount of hopium looking for upside. McGrath has basically been a whipping boy for me for a many years now
In Merrettās goodbye year, he can play the lockdown small defender while McGrath flourishes on the ball.

I loved the game where Gumby totally exposed Maxwell.
Where is the interview?
Wasnāt it Carlisle? Ended his career that day
Nah, was this:
Gumby as a roving CHF had 18 disposals + 10 marks + 2 goals in a big loss. Maxwell refused/failed to defend, and it was pretty embarrassing.
Maxwell wasnāt Vandenberg level, of course.
He was a lone bright spot on an ugly, ugly day.
I recall bronx cheers when someone (Reimers?) kicked the ball out of D50 instead of handballing it

Pretty good mentor too.
