Either way, I can’t recall a good and worthwhile strategy meeting. They are all the same, they bring in the moderator and you have those group exercises to nut out a “problem or to make things better” and each group then says what they have come up with and by the third group there is nothing new to say but they will say it anyway to show they are just as switched on and the moderator writes it all down and there is a big long list of stuff and you know none of it is really going to be followed up so we’ll just go back to doing what we were doing.*

And there is typically the one person who is always the one who gets roped in to take the notes. I hate it if it’s me since my handwriting is embarrassingly atrocious. They typically start with an awkward silence where no one says anything because the question is going to take more than 10 minutes to sort out or it is so unimportant you are only going to pretend to say stuff. Otherwise you go on a massive tangent and don’t discuss the question at all until the last minute when the moderator says “please wrap your discussions up”.

Ugh. This kind of ■■■■ only gets done because supposedly “buy in” from the plebs is very important, especially when middle management needs someone to point the finger at if it doesn’t deliver extra profit margin or whatever.

-edit- I was in a voluntary position once for a national body. Pushed very hard for a very unpopular (but very correct) restructure. In the end made the call against members’ wishes. Ended up resigning just to shut everyone up. 5 years later, membership boom as a result. Vindication, ■■■■■■■. Had I have continued the “consultation” there’d be no progress.

i’ve recently been riding my bike a little more and the amount of rubbish i notice on roadsides is disgusting.

i’m convinced that most of it has to be debris that flies out of rubbish trucks etc, it can;t be people just throwing it out the window in this day and age surely?

it’s then compounded by the council lawn mower dudes just mowing over the top of it all and mincing it in to tiny pieces that spread even further.
