Weakest script. But yeah, interesting he hasn’t watched the show.
Yep. Brandon was pretty miffed at the dead wife arc, was implemented to give the start of the story some drama and then not given the weight a trauma like that causes. Just a bad decision.
book spoilers for perrin
so how do they incorporate faille? your wives died less than a year ago and you’re suddenly in love again?
the wife arc was just dogshit
might be getting my books out of order:
but he has to meet Faile before getting back to the two rivers right? which surely has to be his arc for s3
my point is more the whole thing takes places over like 2 years, no one that genuinely cares grieves and moves on that quickly, and the people that do, you dont really want to be barracking for
So I’ve started rereading the books again and thought that maybe I would give season 2 a try even after the abominable mess that was season 1.
Silly me…fancy thinking that the idiots who wrote season 1 would be better at it in season 2.
I’d really love to sit down with the writers and get them to explain to me how much effort it took them to completely f*ck up one of the best (if not the best) fantasy series of all time.
Anyway…lesson learned…and I will not be wasting another second of my time on this crap.
blame rafe judkins, completely in over his head
At least they let us know from the very first episode that they couldn’t give a ■■■■ about the books.
The ■■■■ with Perrin still makes absolutely no ■■■■■■■ sense
waiting 10 years for Ai animated revisit
she was the perfect Avasarala in The Expanse, that’s a win
wild
have they given the show to a legitimate show runner yet?
Bit of a bump. Just watched the first 3 episodes of Season 3 and while it is still feeling rushed, there were a couple of scenes where I actually sat up and thought, finally they get it. No spoilers but at least I didn’t want to vomit watching it.
Preface by saying ‘there’s nothing wrong with this’ but I can’t watch it without feeling like its target audience is almost specifically young girls and possibly the lgbtq community looking for fun sexy fantasy fare. Obviously stupid amounts of money poured into it yet the fx are Dr Who level, the costume design is high school musical with a big budget and the non name actors are sons and daughters of the investors. It’s all very handsome and pretty yet unattractive, the stakes are always high but why is not apparent, the moments of levity are forced otherwise it’s all po faced serious, and the music is wretched new age faux ethnic chanting to beats. The real village and city street sets are impressive but even then the patina of age and grime is as obvious as the Ishka refugee extras pretending to talk in the background.
Now for the likes : Bezos has poured stupid amounts into a show that champions a multi cultural cast and pan sexual characters in a world where women are dominant, and it was too late to stop after he bent the knee to Trump and MAGA. Something tells me season 3 will be the last of this increasingly fantastical premise.
I’ll still watch it!
I read this serious when it initially came out in the 90’s. It was a long hard slog to the finish. The first two books were mindless fun. After that it got increasingly bogged down and the female characters (in my opinion) became increasingly annoying. I believe Books 7 to 11 are even referred to by fans as “the slog”.
I have problems watching films and adaptations of books I have read because I find I cant tolerate some of the changes. This series did it from the get go. Changes to characters (Perrin married?) and changes to timelines and sequences of events. I might give it another go. Lets see how many times the TV characters cross their arms under their breasts and smooth their skirts.
I stopped watching after season 1…I’ve read all of the books at least four times and genuinely love them.
The fact that the promos still appear to be showing Moraine as the principal character is enough for me to continue avoiding it.
The use of the horn in the last battle in the books was just silly.
Moraine and Ron Weasley have something in common. The writers of both series had sort of written the characters out of the series but were sort of obliged to keep them there.
By the Fires of Heaven Rand was succeeding by ignoring her.
I thought that her character was well written…always had the big picture in mind and changed her way of dealing with Rand to stay close so that she could continue to teach him things he needed to know.
