Where's the team and game day - preseason 2024 v aints?

They say it’s just a practice game… but it isn’t just that. It’s a sim of what’s to come and a presentation of pre season training. My guess is this mob are too cocky to respect the opponent and too disinterested in how to win games from an attitude perspective. I really don’t know how we will cope not making finals this year - after 20 years and with this list which we were being told is raring to go for months now. ■■■■. My. Life…

Correct, we stunk and will stink. Nothing worth watching in today’s match

Waste of money it seems

Lost by 5 in VFL. Roberts the standout of the AFL listed, Alwyn and Hind good before being rested. Jayden Davey sat out the last quarter.

Hately and O’Neill look to be two very good additions to the VFL squad as does tough small forward Oskar Smartt

Cannot believe the negativity here about a “Practice Match”… yes a Practice Match. So what if we played ■■■■■, first hit out for the year, Scott wanted to clear all the cobwebs out of the closet, before the real season begins. Anyone who thinks st kilda are gonna win the flag this year because of a Practice Match, are clearly deluded.

as much as we have some personnel issues up forward we have no method at all to our entries. rarely do we look to change angle at half forward to open the ground up and hit a lead. We are predictable with our ball movement and the last kick is inevitably hit in hope and high to a situation where we don’t have the cattle to consistently create a decent contest.

what’s concerning is that it sounds very much like that’s what we practiced this preseason. evidently it’s what our forwards expected too because they really didn’t lead much at all.

it’s so depressing. Almost as depressing as how much bigger, stronger and faster the saints looked on average to our guys

It would be for the best.

I wish i shared your optimism about next week blummers. Unfortunately it looked like the same old disorganised mess to me

And if we play the same again next week then what?

Today was nothing but alarm bells and they need to shape up pretty quickly other wise another belting is coming.

geelong will belt the living suitcase out of us if play like that again.

Agreed. I did. Because nothing is necessarily causal at this time of year. We actually started the season ok last year iirc, despite being crud at Moorabbin.

But I didn’t like some common sights today, most particularly the ground level defence too often being slow and easily turned back towards goal. And as noted, St kilda enforced their game style on us and looked far more in tune.

I did think Reid and Tsatas looked like genuine talent today, and Bryan at the centre bounces, which was nice to see.

It doesn’t matter how we play. They will still belt us.

…we’re getting closer…
Go Bombers.

North are a favourites surely
They beat collingwood

They will rock with that same disgusting attitude of “it’s just a practice game” mentality

Remember the days of saad and mckenna rebounding from defence? Seems like a lifetime ago. What we’d give for some genuine, attacking pace down back. Its why i dont understand hind forward, he is the only guy who has the capability to break a line back there

Glad I didn’t venture down

We really don’t like pre season games do we. Nothing much changes intensity wise ever

Only consolation is we played rubbish last year too vs St Kilda then had a good start to year

Glad to hear Reid was a positive, the main one! seems Martin very involved also

Others stamping their own papers

Practice match or not, that was a poor display of defensive learnings after an abyssmal end to the 2023 season. People are entitled to be disappointed by that and the club should be held to high standards.

We have two players capable of being creative /accurate with the final kick to forwards, Merret and Martin.

And Scott plays them both defensive side of play.

Yep, most likely. After the end of last year’s performances, I would have thought winning was a priority - even in practice matches. Apparently not.
